A&PII and microbiology?

Nursing Students General Students

Hi everyone,

I have two more classes to do before I finish with my prerequisites. However, July 8 A&PII will start in the morning and also microbiology will start in the afternoon around 5pm. Those two classes will also be ended at the same day. What do you guys think, take them both or not? Please help.

I personally don't think it would be that bad... Not gonna be easy just because it is summer classes, but doable..... Are you planning on starting your nursing program in the fall or what are your plans??? If you are gonna have plenty of time to study, I think it will be ok... Plus how are you doing in A&P I?? Cause A&PII is a lil more difficult.... Good Luck.. :D

hi,

Thank you for replying. I'm gonna start the nursing program in september and I just wanted to get the prerequisites out of the way. And so far I'm doing pretty good in A&PI so I don't know if that's going help me. Thanks again.

I had originally registered to take microbiology and A&P II at the same time this summer. After thinking about the toll it would take on my children, husband and my health I dropped the A&P. If you don't have family responsiblities and you are a good student, go for it. Good luck.

Hi..

I definately think things will be ok... I made sure to get all the Pre-Reqs done before nursing school started.. I am just completing my first semester, final exam on Monday....

Good Luck...

Go ahead and do both of them. As long as you will have time later at night and in the early afternoon to study, you should do fine. A & P II is more about the Phisology of the Anatomy you learn in A & P I.

Micro should go well, esp. if you did well in Biology. As long as you understand the basic premises of biology, the rest will be clear.

Best of luck!

I am currently taking both of them right now and it isn't that bad at all. I never took biology and so I find that microbiology is a little more difficult than a&p but it isn't that bad.

Since summer courses are more intense, I would make sure that you have plenty of study time!

Hi Hanging In There,

I say go for it! You'll never know unless you give it a shot.

I'm not sure what your background is - if you have kids or have to work while you are finishing your pre-req's - but I'm sure that if you can set aside some time each day to study you won't have a problem.

Plus, it's really about your motivation to finish these up and how you learn best. I tend to learn information better if I can cram it into a short period of time. So, if you're like me it may be easier to do it all in the summer.

I've also found that summer courses (on a shorter time table) are taught differently than a regular semester long class. You may learn material one day and then go right into an exam a day or too later. The material will be fresher in your mind. At my school it is hard to find full professors that will teach a summer course so we usually get younger Teacher Assistants or Grad Students who tend to have a little more empathy for us poor students stuck there in the summer. Also, most teachers don't want to be teaching during a nice summer day so you may not be in class the full class period.

You will have to give up some things like staying inside and studying when you'd rather be at the pool but sometimes it's worth it to just be done with it.

Take care and good luck,

Colleen

IMO a lot depends on the teacher. I had a brutal Micro teacher. My friend (now my fiance) took the same class as well as a&P 1st semester but did not work. He ended up w/ a b in a&P and a c in micro. Consequently, he had to repeat micro so he could get the b average in sciences required to go to our nursing school. I took only micro and worked full time, I managed to get an A, but it was a VERY hard class. (This was a full semester class.)

The 2nd time around, however, my boyfriend had a much easier teacher. He says they only covered 1/3 of the stuff we did in our class before.

So my advice? Check w/ some bio majors or nursing majors that are done and get some advice on teachers. They can make or break you!

If you must get A's, I'd only take one since it's so compact in the summer. But if you can deal w/ B's and you have good instructors, you could probably pull it off, but be prepared to eat, sleep, and breathe biology.

Good luck,

Cheryl

Take them!!! It will be super tough, but you want to go ahead and get them done. I just finished up with A&PII, Micro, Nutrition, Med Term (ok, so that's not bad) and Nursing 110, and it can be done :) You can do it. And the sooner that is over with the sooner you will be a RN. WA HOO!!!

I hadn't had any previous Bio class before taking Micro, and I got a "B" in that class...a very strong "B"...like a final average of 93%...which was a "B" at my college. I loved Micro just like I do the Micro on this BB. :kiss Helloooooooooo Micro!!! :kiss
