Well, a lot of people in my A&P 1 class were in there last semester and are taking it agian for a better grade.
Our class starts at 8AM and those people are sauntering in at 8:45 or so. Which is a distraction to those of us that care to be there.
We go to lab at 9:30 and some don't even bother to show up. I guess that is their problem.
How do they expect to pass?
What is worse is that the instructor is always saying things like.....
"ya'll should remember this from last semester"
"we went over this last semester, can anyone remember?"
"last semester we went over this so I am not going to spend as much time on it this time."
We are on the chemistry section right now, which is very confusing.
In the lab, the instructor skips around checking on people. It seems like he spends most of his time helping and joking with the ones that are there for the second time and does not have time for anyone else.
I feel as if he is catering to the ones that he know already. I am so frustrated right now. I really want to pass this class the first time around.

I think being able to take classes over for a better grade is a crock. I'm sorry if this sounds offensive but I wouldn't want some of the students that I know who took 3 tries to get a B in Micro at my bedside.
As for what is happening in your class, sadly this scene followed us through LPN school also. There are students that for whatever reason are allowed to behave in ways that are not very professional, imo. In a perfect world I'd suggest writing a letter or complaining but the couple of people that tried it in my class didn't have any success and I think that might have ended up being more frustrating than just ignoring them. Just try to focus on your education and don't worry the slackers won't end up with better grades than you no matter how many allowances are made for them! Hang in there, Jules

My instructor last semester got fired because some students went to the dean about her and too bad too she was pretty good, but a group had a problem with her guess they were expecting to be spoonfed. But you usually get action going to the dean.

Sounds like you and I are at the same school
I could write a book about my experiences in pre-nursing classes....it's been like a circus at times :monkeydance:
Hang in there, ignore all idiots and schedule conferences with your teacher during his office hours if you have questions.

It's A&PI and the instructor isn't going to go over things because they went over them last semester? :uhoh21: I would remind the instructor that this is your first semester and that you are there to succeed the first time.
I've just about had it with the crazy behavior of some of my classmates. In Psychology class Monday the kid in front of me had his laptop (teacher said we could use lap tops to take notes) and he was playing games on it during lecture. I was half tempted to hop up and shout, "you won dude!", but I controlled myself. I really think that I get aggravated by some of the shenanigans of the youngsters because I'm there to learn and I wish that someone had kicked me in the hiney when I was a youngster and I wouldn't be taking classes in my 30's.

I know what you mean. I am 25 and am giving up a lot to go to school. I feel like my A&P instructor is ruining it for me by catering to the slackers.
As far as the people playing on laptops, leaving class to talk on cell phones, sleeping, coming in late, etc....I feel like that is their problem and that is probably the reason why they did not do so well in A&P the first time around.
I guess I am going to have to study, study, study that much harder to make up for my poor excuse of a professor. I pay to go to school and don't feel like I am getting my money's worth listening to him joke with the slackers about killing cats and watching the little 18 year old girls bat their eyelashes and stick out their chests at him.
It will be okay though. I know which instructor I am NOT choosing for A&P 2. :trout:

lol pixie I feel the same way but on the other hand of they aren't bothering me with the game and not working hard they won't get in and thats one less person I have to worry about in competition for nursing school hehehe.

you know I have had a lot of "poor" instructors in my life and I am noticing that those classes I learn quite well because I study harder and do the work on my own and retain the information that much better. I hope you can make it thru this tough class and move on to a better instructor for 102. AP is alot of fun and you shouldn't have to dread going to class.
True. The gamer and his friends do tend to chat it up during lecture too, but let's just say a little bird, not me, filled the teacher in on their antics and they have received their last warning. I could have written a book including my rants over my the kidlings in my chemistry class last semester. Thank God that no one got hurt over their stupidity.
hey did we have the same chemistry class? lol.
I loved the 2 girls sitting next to me that text messaged the whole time on their phone, popping gum and clicking the keys on their phone nearly made me insane.

My chief complaint was the boy who kept coming over and playing with the flints and squirting the deionized water for fun during lab. I wouldn't have minded him if he would have stayed at his own lab station. The highlight of my chemistry class was the day he was asked to leave because he couldn't keep his yapper closed during lecture. He's a nice enough kid, but I will admit to not feeling sorry for him when he confessed that he wasn't doing well in the class.

Go and try talking to the instructor when he has office hours.
Ask him about his tardy policy, or if he can make a rule. A lot of my past classes being late was okay as long as you came in quietly through the back door and sat in the back.
Mention that he keeps saying "Since we went over this last semester..." and that you weren't in his class last semester.
When it comes to labs and getting attention be more agressive. Just go up and say "Mr INstructor could you explain/could you look at _________"
