Ok, the last two classes have been over Action Potential, etc.....channels, pumps, gates.....
Once I think I have a grasp on it, I loose it. Is this really that hard, or am I making too much of it?
Anyway, this weekend will be spent typing out my notes, and going over and over them, so I can understand all this nervous tissue stuff before next Tuesday. ughhhhhhh
Hope everyone else is not feeling so overwhelmed. I have a headache.
......but I have to keep thinking of my goal!!!!!!!!

Best thingie to remember about action potential is each step on it's own.

1 Stimulus in =Graded Potential( depolarization)

2. If graded potential hits threshold = ACTION POTENTIAL

3.Depolarizaton Spike ( Na+ voltage gates open= Na+ floods in)

4.Repolarization ( K+ voltage gates open/ Na+ gates closing- while still open= ABSOLUTE REFRACTORY PERIOD( no new AP can be triggered)....when finally all closed= RELATIVE REFRACTORY PERIOD- a new AP can be triggered but only if stimulus is greater than original stimulus)

5. Hyperpolarization ( overshoot of RMP as K+ gates aren't fully closed at RMP so it overshoots)

6. Na+/K+ pump brings us back to RMP

I drew little curves and pictures...after a day or 2 I had it down pat. You will too! GOOD LUCK!

We just took lecture exam #3 yesterday I was more than prepared for it...then I got the WORST case of the flu and had 1 hour sleep Wed night....so there were a few questions that were " trick" and I know I messed them up because my head felt like it weighed 9000000000 lbs. I am pretty sure I got a B. But, I will still have an A overall so I don't really care...because I feel horrible and it took everything I could to drive up there yesterday!

On Spring Break I get to write a case study, a paper on endocrine glands, and study for lab exam #3 which is the day we get back. So, basically, I will be studying! Well...back to bed for now.

I would have been confused by the use of the word chemical...I wouldn't have picked calcium because I don't consider it a chemical. We just started on the sliding filament model last class, don't like it as much as the skeletal info. Sorry the teacher wouldn't budge.

I memorized the sliding filament model from the book and the accompanying CD-ROM. Not sure which curriculum you have but just as some of the others here, we are also using Marieb. The CD cracks me up, but really broke it all down for me and has little quizzes to take over each section. I seem to learn much better visually.

We just finished with the muscles, brain, and all of the nervous system, the exam we took yesterday. Next exam is 3 weeks away and is over the endocrine system, blood, and the cardiovascular system; both the heart and blood vessels.

All this morning I have been typing my notes out, in an order I can understand. It seems that the instructor kept jumping around, or one thing would remind him of another thing that he needed to explain first, etc. I guess being too knowlegeable can hurt the students as well. ....or I really was just overwhelmed.

However, now that I am typing out my notes in my own outline, I am seeing it more clearly.

BTW......RMP ...is that Resting membrane potential?

Well, I am totally depressed. I received my test result today and got 71%. Got home and realized I never marked 6 questions on the scantron. For some reason I thought I was supposed to write that on the test paper. Anyway, a glimpse of hope: he keeps the tests and never gives them back to us, so I am hoping that Monday when I tell him, he will be willing to look at the test and see that I have done them.

Thanks Fun. I talked to him today, and he is not known for being the nicest guy ever lol. Anyway, the only thing he said was: I'll look at it (my test). Then I asked: Do you even know my name lol He never called the roll, and leaves the scantrons on the table after class, how am I to know he knows who I am. He said, he knows well who I am :uhoh21:

This guy standing next to me said that might be a good sign since he NEVER corrected anyone's grade, I must have looked desperate lol

I forgot to add. I created a Word document with the Sliding Filament Theory, and if anyone wants it, I'll email it. It is a combination of my book, notes and some online sources. Let me know if you need it :)

It actually makes more sense to me than the cell lol

As a last ditch effort you may want to talk to the dean of students.

Last semester I wrote down the wrong version on my Molecular Bio exam ( there were versions A+B....I had version B but for some reason I wrote A- I STILL don't know why LOL). Anyway when I got it back I had a 30%! And I KNEW I did a LOT better than that and I was in TEARS! Then when I saw the test posted I knew immediately that I had written the wrong version...I went to my Prof. and BEGGED her to rescore my scantron under the right version..she said she'd " think about it"....well I was an EMOTIONAL MESS so my boyfriend MADE me go see the Dean of Students...well one phone call and walla...she rescored it and I had a 90%!

So, you may want to think about it...it won't hurt in the long run.

I don't think that I would need to do that. He said he would check it out and that is a big deal. If nothing else, I will make sure I NEVER make a same mistake again :rotfl:
