Our micro had a lecture component and lab and the 2 had almost completely different material. I really enjoyed the lab portion as we would set up slides, test tubes or petri dishes in different ways using different bacterias. Two days later we would look at results, make interpretations and go home to write up our lab report with conclusions. The lecture would focus on types of bacteria, gram - + , viruses, replication. We also touched on fermentation, the Krebs cycles, ATP. Good stuff.
I also took my pre-req's over the 10 year plan, and now will be entering my senior year in my BSN program this fall! I took micro over the summer and my book came with podcasts that I listened to every chance I could. I swear they helped! It also had awesome online resources like videos and such. I just sunk my teeth into everything the book offered online and ended up with an A-. Good luck to you!
thank you chocolate for your post!
i just opened my textbook and found... www.mymicrobiologyplace.com. this is going to be a great study tool. i would have never looked at this.
thank you!!! this is why i love this site!
Hi pre-
Sorry I posted my question here, but I didn't wanted to start a thread just for this. Besides it's not a very different subject.
Well...I was thinking about taking English Composition I, Chemisty 1033 + lab, and Micro + lab...all online in the fall10....but I'm thinking that might be too much...Like many others I have to work and to take care of the house.
So, do you think chemistry and micro is difficult? Should I take them together? I'm afraid of not getting good grades...this is all new for me and it scary...without mentioning ENC ....which I believe is difficult enough.
I just want to finish all the pre-requisits before next spring..so I'll have to hurry up.
I'll appreciate your comments about it...
Thanks...
PS: And LuckyMe4... Congrats for that B

i assume you're using tortora's book...anyways i used that that site combined with this one mcgraw hill website that had really good videos on the lac operon, metabolism, and etc. if you can answer all of those practice questions/tests from the website then you should be very good. my professor didn't even ask a question that was as hard as those practice questions. if you have time, i would suggest reading some the chapters ahead of time to a get a hard start. i read that book entirely 2 times before my summer semester started and once during and that made the class seem like cake.
I took and A&PII and Micro together and made A's. In my micro class we had quizzes everyday and had to know what bacteria caused what diseases. All our tests were fill in the blank too. Labs were real interesting though!! I read somehwere about you not taking chemistry, i didnt have chemistry either and did just fine!! Chemistry and Micro really don't correspond with each other...theres very little chemistry involved during lecture. and practically none in lab...idk if it's different for everyone else, but thats how mine was.
