A & P study ideas

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I just started my class today. I only have class two days a week so there's a lot of teaching myself basically. I know flash cards will help for some stuff and writing the notes more than once and such. What are some other ideas that have helped you be successful in A&P?

Pretty much what everyone else said, and:

I adore the Anatomy Crash Course series on YouTube. It doesn't teach you the details of organ systems, but it definitely fills in some grey spots, as well as being really fun to watch.

Hey! I am in A&P right now also, we have a brand new teacher (literally fresh out of med school) so there is a lot of self teaching going on for me. Here are the things I use and find helpful:

McGraw Hill Smart Book - This is the A&P Book we use, the smart book is really intuitive and makes learning the material easy! It tracks where you are and quizzes you along the way

Anatomy & Physiology | McGraw-Hill Connect

Crash Course - I love Hank! He is the best!

Livescribe- I record all of my lectures on my Livescribe Echo (Not the 3) The headphones work awesome and the paper has a memory (i guess that is what you would call it) so if you tap on the page it instantly replays the audio recorded when you were writing it down. *This is an investment that I would make over again, if you sign up for the newsletter on livescribe.com they send out coupons a lot. Also be sure to research with pen will work best for you. For me, the Echo is a great fit. The link below has a $20 off coupon & free shipping

Livescribe Store - Buy Direct

Cliffs Notes - This book has helped a lot in driving home the basics

Amazon.com: CliffsNotes Anatomy & Physiology Quick Review, 2ndEdition (Cliffsnotes Quick Review) (9780470878743): Steven Bassett: Books

These coloring books are great! (I also bought Pentacolor Color pencils

The Anatomy Coloring Book: 9780321832016: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com

Netters Flash Cards - I used these all the time

I also use these Quick Reference guides that I bought from my bookstore but Amazon has them too (they have everything!)

I earned an A in my last quarter and going strong this quarter. Hope this helps you! :)

Thank you for all those suggestions. I plan to look into all those today!!

+1 on the anatomy coloring book! Definitely worth the time and money!

I have two of them..... Of course in storage! Lol

Hello, I'm taking Anatomy and Physiology lecture and lab this semester as well, right along with my Mac1105 class. You've gotten some great advice so far, some I will incorporate into my new study habits. Here's what I'm doing: Write only what professor says is important/and or what he or she writes on the board. My professor will say, pay special attention to blank. I write what he says as a side note, actually labeled note.

I carry around a small pencil bag filled with different color pens and markers. Learn whether you're a visual, auditory or kinetic learner. You might be like me-Visually learner 1st, Auditory 2nd and kinetic last in that order. I keep that in mind by reading everything the professor writes on the board or show on the overhead, I connect what I learn as he speaks, I write or draw what I see in colored pencil or pen and marker. I also watch him as he speak because he may point or act out a particular section of the body.

Because I learn visually first, I sit in the front row/section in the middle of the class. I know this is where my focus point is. It keeps me away from the door or windows where distraction can often take place. Next, since I learn in auditory 2nd, I listen intensively to what the professor says and how he says it, his emphasis and words or rhyme I can associate with what he's saying; this allows me to understand what importance the word or concept means.

Lastly, during lecture or lab if he's talking about a area or section of the body, I point or touch that area. If he's talking about the toes, I wiggle my toes, repeat the word he says while looking at my shoe where my toes is located.

For the gross anatomy portion of A&P I made animated powerpoints with pictures from the text that had boxes that covered what each part of the body where that disappeared when I clicked, so it was like an interactive quiz. I emailed it to myself and used keynote on my iPhone so I could use it to study wherever I went.

If you want them, you can private message me your email address and give me a list of the systems you're studying and I'll forward them to you. You can print them as well and use them as study sheets to practice with by filling out with a pencil.

Hello, I have larked on AllNurses for a year now but I am only now commenting. I do not know how to private message but I would like for you to email me any of the materials you have about Anatomy and Physiology, such as your animated PowerPoint's, etc.

My email is [email protected] Thank you in advance!

I also do the different colors. I have all colors of pens, index cards and now even writing paper. Our professor follows the power point and usually doesn't make.too many side points. I do note some stuff that he mentions but its usually pp stuff. Which makes it hard to narrow down when they usually are 49-60 power points.

Any coloring book recommendations ? There are quite a few but none are showing me actual pages of them.

I personally used the Wynn Kapit anatomy coloring book and liked it very much :) it was a very nice supplement to my lecture and nice practice for the lab practicals.
