About SFnursetobe12

Decided to change careers and am currently enrolled in BSN program. I'm looking forward to all the experiences nursing school has to offer. I want to experience as many specialties I can when in school so I can find a specialty that fits me well. But I'm leaning towards Emergency nursing

  1. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

Students have started a petition to change the sophomore 2 progression policy. For example to not make students pay $1600 for the remediation "course" and maybe give students 2 tries before remediation. Hopefully something will come of it especially ...
  2. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

Congrats @nJAM! It isn't ideal that the program is 3+ years for transfers. The program was set up for incoming freshmen, not transfers. But you can use the time to take a minor or do their masters program. There's things to do! And we get summers of...
  3. Can you go straight into a BSN program after high school ?

I'm sure programs are different but at our school they take students right out of high school directly into the BSN program. The freshmen spend the first year taking nursing related prereqs (anat, physio etc) and start the nursing program the second ...
  4. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

Stay hopefully everyone! I know of a classmate that was accepted a week before school started!
  5. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

That's great @tessalynngarcia that you finished all your prereqs! Just so you know if you are relying on financial aid you may need to take some PE classes or a minor to get your 12 units per semester. True, that's it's easier to pass the NCLEX if y...
  6. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

I am a transfer (spring start) our cohort is around 100. The fall is the freshman start (right out of high school) but there are a few transfers that get put with them. I'm assuming if some of the 18/19 year olds don't pass their prereqs there are a ...
  7. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

I'm a junior right now. If you don't get in this semester and still would be considering going to USF you should complete all your courses that are not nursing at a CC. Once admitted to USF you must take ALL remaining courses at USF (visual arts, his...
  8. University of San Francisco Fall 2018 Applicants

Current student here. Good luck on getting accepted! Hopefully you have all been applying to many different programs! My biggest regret is that I only applied to USF and didn't wait to finish my prerequisites and apply to a state school. If you have...
  9. Every school is different. The BSN program I go to gives students two chances. They are direct entry for freshmen out of high school and I know a girl that failed (C-) micro and physiology and she was kicked out. Those were her two classes :/
  10. Future Pediatric Nurse: UC Berkeley vs Sac State

One more comment. If you decide not to go to UCB then maybe start looking into how you should go about getting that nursing degree. Did you get a scholarship to Sac State? Are you looking for the traditional college experience? Are you ok if it takes...
  11. Future Pediatric Nurse: UC Berkeley vs Sac State

Just throwing this out there but since nursing is so impacted in CA could you go to Cal to do your prereqs and apply to nursing programs from there? If for some reason you don't get into nursing school right away you could study at UCB and continue ...
  12. Pre-Nursing

The best for pre nursing might be the "other" option. Since both schools do not guarantee entry to their nursing program (unless something has recently changed) you have to look at what school is going to allow you to finish your pre reqs in a timely...
  13. Any advice on must haves for nursing school

Such great advice! I'd like to add a case for your stethoscope. I like not having to worry about my stethoscope being at the bottom of my back pack. I feel like it's safe during transport to class/clinical/home and I don't have to worry about it get...
  14. UCI, SFSU, or Seattle U?

Aid is a big deal! The freshmen I have met have really good scholarships, I'm guessing the people that say yes to USF are doing so with a nice aid package. But it is nice that USF guarantees incoming freshmen to finish in 4 year (as long as you pass ...
  15. UCI, SFSU, or Seattle U?

If you want the quickest route to becoming a nurse then I would suggest against entering a school as a "pre nursing" major. Acceptance into a Bay Area Nuring school is so competitive that I can't see why you wouldn't take a direct entry program. I al...
