I was just curious to the people in here that have, or are currently taking those classes. I do have to work- 45 hours a week, and I am registered for A&P1 & Microbiology for the Fall. I work M-F 8-5, and I have church Sunday, and Thursday at 7-9.. I just wanted to get some advice- My classes are Mon & Wed from 6-9, and Sat from 8-2. If I am planning on allocating Tuesday, All day Saturday, and Sunday, and my lunch & break time at work for studying, do you think I can do this?... I am really nervous about the classes, but I really know in my head that I HAVE to do this, and I have to get a good grade! I just bought the A&P coloring book & A&P & Microbiology made incrediblly easy books to read over the summer, so I have some practice, But I just wanted some advice/ tips from all of you that have done this.
Thank yoU!!

i took a & p I last semester and i didnt score high enough . i got a D.
it ws totally overwhelming for me. iknow some who take it 2-3 times to do well and others do well the very first time. i think a lot has to do with your age, and how long youve been out of school. my 6th grader came home from school, and was studying some of the same stuff i have in A and P. unreal. we didnt learn any of that stuff when i was in school. i felt really dumb. a and p just seemed almost impossible to learn to me personally. i didnt understand teh questions etc.
im no dumbie either. i had 4.0 for 3 semesters till i took that class.
real bummer.
i wish you all the luck, and spend every moment learning, reading, coloring, and do the flashcards and all practice exams etc they offer. dont miss a lab either. do study groups too.
good luck hon

Hi wannab,
If all you are taking is A&P and Micro, you should be fine. Granted, it is really tough, but it can be done. My first semester in school, I was teaching full time plus taking 15 hours. It wasn't A&P and Micro, but math, A&P 1, English, Human Growth and Humanities. Plus I have 4 kids!! I took most of my classes online, and still do. It takes discipline, but I am such a visual learner that I do so much better reading everything myself. I took A&P 2, Micro and Psych together last semester. Micro was the hardest for me, but the most interesting, as we got to do more hands on work in the lab.
If you are disciplined enough to stay on task and get your work done, you should have no problem~

I Just finished A&P2 and Micro. Both had labs. It was a lot of work...but I think I pulled A's in both. I also took Human Growth and Development...also an A.
As far as working and taking two science classes? I wouldn't do it. It would be too easy to get behind and find yourself in trouble.
If you managed your time to the extreme...you can pull it off. I mean hitting flash cards in the elevator...grocery line...on the sh!tter. A&P1 has a lot of memorization (muscles, bones, nerves..etc.) so your going to find most of your time going over that stuff. Micro also requires its fair share of work. The nice thing is that you would be taking two biology classes...and some information compliments each class.
For prospective nursing students in our area, GPA is essential. Drops, withdraws and reattempts hurt you also. To ensure you get in you have to make sure you do well in a class....the first time you take it.
Is there anyway you can reduce work hours if you find yourself behind in class? If you do take both classes, make sure you have an "escape route" that won't hurt your future.

I run a daycare in my home from 7-5 M-F, have a daughter who was 3 at the time, a mom with Lou Gehrig's disease and managed to earn a B in both A&P 1 and Micro the same semester. I keep beating myself up for not getting As, but I have to remind myself that I had a lot going on!

I have not taking micro yet , but did organic chem, a&p, statistics, and religion online. I work 40hrs a week and have 4 kids. These classes were doable- not easy... just study and dont fall behind. I have maintained a 3.8 with 58 credits under my beltin less than 3 years w/ my hectic life. I think flash cards saved my life, just study try not to slack and things so I go smoothly for you.
Good Luck !!!
(My waiting and studying payed off, I start Nursing school this fall!!!)
-I start micro in 3 weeks-

yes it can be done but you will be burned out but hey its only a couple months right?
I don't work outside the home but I have 3 small kids, I go to school 4 days a week coming home just when they are out of school, that leaves me Monday 5 hours to study ( I volunteer at school for a couple of hours) and every other wedensday they have a half of day. I also have church a couple times a week but I am afraid I don't make it to the weekly lessons this semester because of this schedule. Something has to give only so many hours in the day and its temporary. My husband travels most weeks so I try to be "there" for the kids when they get home. I study ALOT I squeeze in times i prepare to study so I am always ready to go, I spend evenings making flash cards, I go in early to school when I can and go to the library at night if my husband is home. Sometimes its not unheard of for me to wake up at 2am and squeeze in 2 more hours of reading. I am very tired, I am very grumpy and I can't wait for this semester to be over, but I am pulling A's in micro and AP kids are fed and healthy and it will be worth it to have the summer off with them Come June.

I would not suggest taking A &P and Micro at the same time. I did that last semester, and I was re taking Micro (so I didnt have to take the lab) and A& P and I still didn't do as well as I would have liked

I have to ask you for advice. To take those classes, work and raise 4 kids. How do you do it with kids? I have a 7 month old and I'm really trying to figure how to find time to study and work full time. Any advice?
