A & P and Microbiology

Published

I've seen several things about how hard A & P and Micro Biology are and people who take them together don't have a life...How hard is it really?

I'm thinking about taking them together Fall 2017 and topping them off with an intro to Spanish class. Does that sound do-able?

I know the prof who teaches Micro and she's very nice, and easy to work with. I took her this semester with Biology 1107, she told me that it was a hard course. I came out of the class with A's on lab and lecture. Now I did study hard, I asked for help when I didn't understand something...We started with like 36 people in the lab and ended with around 18.

I really need to take them together if I want to reach my goal of making it into nursing school by 2018 (with ALL my prereqs out of the way!) so...any insight?

Stats kicked my butt (final grade is a low B for me), but I took it online, which was a mistake. Chemistry isn't bad really - the labs were fun. Psych is a pretty easy class.

I don't think my college offers Statistics online.

Lol my Ipad decided to post before I was ready. Yeah a bunch of my classmates in Biology said Psych was really easy (online). I took Sociology this semester and it wasn't bad at all--once I got the hang of it.

Has anyone taken Spanish? When I was 6 my family moved to Costa Rica for a year due to my dads business. My older siblings are fluent in Spanish and I have kept up my vocab somewhat (taken Duo lingo too). What does the elementary Spanish cover? My academic counselor said I could talk with the prof who teaches Spanish and see if they'd let me skip ahead to intermediate... I just don't want to bite of more than I can handle. Neither do I want to repeat something if I already know if (although I am rather tempted to...).

If elementary spanish is the same as spanish 1, then it is not bad at all. My family is not hispanic, nor have i travelled to anywhere that natively speaks spanish, but i very easily obtained an A in the class with minimal studying. I am hoping my university accepts my spanish 1 course because they prefer you to take a "spanish for the medical professions" course

Have you taken A & P? Nobody chimed in on my post about it yet. I'm a little worried about chem but i'm planning on using the Kahn Academy to brush up my skills.

I've taken both A&Ps. High school biology was a decade ago for me :shy: I went to a private high school and took freshman biology and AP biology, so I feel like I had a good, solid foundation in biology. However, Anatomy & Physiology are college level courses so they're harder than high school.

At the same time, they're not impossible. I mean, I have a non-science degree and didn't study a lick of biology in the past ten years and I did just fine.

BTW, Khan Academy is great for A&P, and I also really like the "Crash Course" series for Anatomy & Physiology. Definitely check those out!

Oh i feel you. I'm only 26 so high school was 8 years ago for me. Feels so long ago. I did AP biology as well and really liked it. A & P was basically a science elective i just chose to do because i loved science classes. I also have non-science degrees (psych undergrad, criminal justice grad) so that is comforting to know these classes aren't a killer for someone who was a non-science major.

I am taking Micro and A&P 1 this Spring so I'm interested to see the responses as well. I'm a little nervous!

No I haven't taken it yet. I'm worried about chemistry as well. (taking chem 1 this coming semester). I took out an old high school book and I'm reading through it. I know it's an highschool book it's college I'm doing...but I found that the Biology I did this semester was exactly the same as my highschool Biology.

Please let me know how it turns out!!!! This is the only place I've gotten encouragement for doing it. Everywhere else says it's impossible. Something I discovered this semester was that few of my classmates really studied. Most of them overnighted before an exam and were scared to death they'd forget everything. I always got the study guide 2 to 3 weeks ahead and studied it a little every day. It's worked very good for me so far and today my Biology prof told me I got A's on the lab and lecture. YAY!!!!

I've not taken Micro yet but I can tell you that A&P II was pretty tricky for me. I found it much more difficult than A&P I! I used lots of resources like "crash course", "Khan Academy", "YouTube". I found if you put the time into it you should be just fine.

That being said you know best what you and your brain can do! I'd have a glance at the text books and see how you feel you would do.

Thanks for the advice! At the college I attend everyone has to sign up for classes through an academic counselor. So... It all depends on what my counselor feels I can handle. :/

I'm taking anat & physio right now & it's tough. I'd advise taking 1 at a time. Both are really tough courses.

I have taken anatomy and physiology and microbiology all at a different semester. I did take my chemistry requirement with anatomy and while I did get As in both classes - it sucked. It is doable to take all three and pass but I would be surprised if someone took all three and got As plus a forgein language. Nothing is impossible but I would assume going through all three classes in one semester with As is insanely rare.
