A&P 1 Fall '06 Club!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Just wanted to start a "club" for those of us who are taking A&P 1 this fall.

My class is 16 weeks. I have lecture on M/W/F for one hour each day and lab on Tues for 3 hrs.

My teacher for lecture & lab (same person) is awesome! She gives us a weekly quiz, drops the lowest one. Gives us extra credit. Four major tests. Final is comprehensive. (Ick)

She gave us handouts for chapter 1 and we just fill in what we want as she pretty much has everything she wants in these handouts. She told us we don't have to bring our big, heavy book to class - she'd tell us page numbers of tables, pictures she wanted us to know. As a matter of fact - she said we don't have to use the book that was sold to us for this semester. She said we could use any book like Saladin, etc., and make copies if any diagram, table is different. Pretty nice there.

Okie dokie - who else?

I would go to your Academic Dean's office (immediately)as well, because her behavior is inappropriate! At the least, you might be able to transfer into a different class which poses a different set of problems. Good luck to you!

:o Im not doing so well in my A&P class.. So much information and my professor doesn't ease up on us at all.. How can I make this course a fun one.. I've tired, I actually thought I was going to love this because I always wanted to know every bone in the body but this is so dead. It is not Midterm and I have got a D.. I hate it.. We are now studying the Muscular system. The professor doesnt talk about it, he just passes the study guide out and say here and we are having a test on it next week wednesday.. I'm like :uhoh3: .. I'm so tired, juggling this class + 3 more+ work+ and a baby.. this is really time consuming. Advice anyone?

I am sorry you are finding it such a struggle. Is it past the drop date? if not maybe you need to take it again but reprioritize your schedule, find a new teacher etc....if its too late for that, can you find some friends in the class to study with, there are usually people who are very happy to have an extra person to compare notes etc... I have a group of 4 or so people but we welcome anyone and usually announce to everyone where and what time we will be. It really helps to compare notes and thoughts on the subjects.

hang in there Anatomy is a fun course and you do have to have the right attitude as it is a ton of work!

goodluck.

HELP HELP HELP!!! Ugg... anyone doing Organology Histology??? We have a quiz on Tuesday and I'm looking at all this stuff thinking.... It's all the same! I can't tell the muscularis mucosa from the lamina propria.... any tips on how to study this stuff?? Good luck to everyone! The semester is drawing near to an end.... whew.....

Hiya,

I wish you guys the best of luck.

Okay Guys! Just a few more weeks left. I have until the 16th to drop A&P I. I currently have an over all GPA of 3.75 and must get at least a B in A&P. Right now I have a 76%. I have a Practical in Lab on Wed and another exam next Monday. So, that gives me two opportunities to bring my grades up! I can't decide if I should just fight through it even if I get a C and then take it again next semester, or withdrawl and then take it. I don't know which is worse!! Any ideas?? What will a C do to my GPA?

i am also a nontraditional student , 39 and have 5 children. this is my 3rd semester, and A & P is by far the hardest challenge ever ! i am suffering with a D in the class. i have class mwf and lab on tues for 3 hours. i feel like im on a freight train going thru class, no breaks, and way too much information. it jsut seems like i CANT learn it, likes it not possible. any advice ?

im so overwhelmed.:uhoh3:

For our Histology practical, our A&P teacher told us that we just had to marry the slides....the only way to learn them, was to look at them over and over and over again. Have you considered grabbing images from the internet and making flash cards of them?

Best of luck!

Peace,

Cathie

I think ANYTHING is possible. I can't imgine being in your situation with 5 kids however. I am single, work a full time day job and go to school for A&P Monday for 3 hours and then Wed Lab for 3 hours. I am also taking another class that I have on Tuesday's and Thursdays. It's definitely a beating!! I was told you just have to EAT, BREATH & SLEEP A&P. It's the only way to learn it. We also have opportunities to go into the labs a few days a week to study the models and slides. I would say if you have that at your school TAKE ADVANTAGE!! Also, most colleges offer tutoring programs. Go talk to them about what differences you can make in your study habits. If you don't have tutorers, talk to your professers. They may be able to stear you in the right direction. If all else fails....PRAY FOR A CURVE!!

Good luck...and I will say a prayer for you!

God Bless!

Flash cards, flash cards, flash cards. Print out pictures, white/black out the names of structures/bones/etc, and glue them to index cards. Put functions, origin/insertion, whatever else on the back. Then do the same for all your key terms. I've made almost 1000 already just for A&P I, and I have an A in the course. My classmates might make fun of me for trying so hard, but it's working so far. You're not too far from a B, if you can get a couple As at the end of the semester you'll do alright. I agree, look into tutoring if it's the concepts you aren't getting. Also one C doesn't necessarily ruin your whole GPA. It depends how many overall credits you have. If your school emphasizes pre-nursing grades or if you don't have many extra credits, you may want to drop it if you don't think you can get it up...you just sound like you're close enough that you can do it. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
