Hi, my name is Stephanie and I want to start a thread for everyone applying to A&M Round Rock for Spring of 2015!

Stephtap87,

I have 2 friends who did the texas state program and they really liked it so if all else fails it is a great backup plan.I understand wanted to do the fast track program though.

AHHHH I am still waiting, I HATE the wait. It is driving me crazy. How are y'all doing?

Brenda-That sounds really good! It feels like we have a good shot. I think everyone on this thread does :)

September just won't end...

Hello! I was just reading your thread and wanted to offer some encouragement as you wait your admission decision. I am currently in the program, graduating in May. I still remember the exact moment I found out. It was October 3rd during my physio lab, so I hope your wait won't be much longer. You all have very similar stats to me, so I hope you get in :) My story is very similar to some of you as I have two little ones at home (2 and 4). Although many of my classmates don't know how I do it, I think being a mom has helped me succeed more than when I was young and single with no kiddos. Wishing all of you the best of luck!

Thank you Aggie2015 for the encouragement! Congrats on your accomplishments!

Thank you Aggie2015 for your words of encouragement and invaluable information. Praying we all get into the program!

Thank you, Aggie2015. Your encouragement is much appreciated!

By the way, do you have any demographic information on your cohort? Were they mostly A&M graduates, or did they mostly have their Bachelor's degrees from other schools? Were there any males, or was it all female? Were the students older or younger?

Okay so both my brother and I went to A&M and apparently before my brother received his acceptance email he went to the A&M website and searched his name in their search bar. It showed up and that was how he knew he was accepted. I think you have to click the "people" option for it to work (if it even works). I know this is random and I don't know if it will work, BUT I know we are all going crazy waiting so you may give it a try haha?

I tried and nothing came up so that sucked, I also am curious if it only works if you do it on the Texas A&M site but not the tamuhsc. Lastly, it may just be too early to try! You have to be in the system for it to work which means they have to have admitted you and maybe just not sent everything out yet. I'm sure my brother only saw it a few days before he got his acceptance. Anyways, sorry for rambling and I hope this doesn't make it worse for anyone :)

There are a lot of A&M grads, but mostly on the Bryan side. They are also a lot younger (more recent grads). As for Round Rock, most are in their mid-20s and several of us in our 30s. There are a small handful of us that have kids and just one guy on the RR side. My first degree is from A&M and I have heard the rumor about how it's easier to get accepted, but there are a wide range of universities represented in our class. Good luck to you all! I remember what the wait felt like.

What is your opinion of the program so far, Aggie2015? There are several negative postings, but they are older. I'm curious if opinions have improved since it has a few years under its belt.

That is a good question! What you have to keep in mind constantly is this is a BSN program and the goal is to help you learn to think critically (or as they say "think like a nurse.") They want you to be able to go into a patient's room and not just do a bunch of tasks (start an IV, put in an NG tube or foley, etc), but be able to think ahead and anticipate possible issues the patient may have ("What could be causing their O2 sat to be 88%?") That being said, there are many things in the curriculum that may not seem to apply directly to nursing and what it means to be a "floor" nurse, but at the same time will help us in the long run to be able to think critically. It might not make sense now, but trust me, you'll see what I'm talking about soon enough. I am just now starting to understand the whole picture. I think what some people don't like is they had a different perception of what nursing school would be like (I know I certainly did). Overall, I am glad I entered the program and wouldn't do anything different. I LOVE the fact that I will have my BSN in 15 months instead of 2-2 1/2 years. As I mentioned earlier, I have 2 kids, so I wanted to get through school as soon as I could. It's tough, but I think well worth it in the end.
