Hi everyone,

I was just offered a job at a hospital in milwaukee county. I'm excited because I know i would like the job and unit however the hospital is union. I have never worked for a union before so I'm unsure if this move would be wise. Any insight or comments would be great!

Thanks!!

Unions are a good thing, they will take a

Piece of you paycheck but they also protect you as well. I think the reason

For the great wages in Madison is that 2 or3 of the hospitals are union. It drives all

Our wages up

Ouch, the unions look like they are about to collapse under the new gov. Walker...looks like you are about to loose collective bargaining rights. Talk about taking away state employees workplace rights!!

Or maybe its Walker who will collapse. At the least, he will not get re elected, at worst he may be recalled and disgraced forever. Thoes teachers and school nurses aren't going down without a fight...and there's a LOT of them.

I don't think they will win this battle...

"They" being the teachers. :(

You are lucky to be offered a job in a union hospital. I have worked in both and much prefer the union. Non union can be great too, IF there is a big shortage of nurses. However as soon as there were more applicants than open positions you could FEEL the change in managment's attitude to the nurses.

I would not be so sure. There is strength in numbers and I think Walker has bitten off more than he can chew here.

As of now, the only nurses that should lose thier collective bargaining rights are those that work for the state. I don't think that includes any in Milwaukee Co although I could be wrong.
