Just completed RN to BSN less than 6 months

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

I started at on October 1, 2018. I just finished the final class. 43 credits in one semester. I needed a few things that I did not do in my ADN program, like statistics. I will answe any questions you may have to help you through it

So I have 55 classes to complete. I have about 25-30 hours each week I can dedicate to school. The program mentor they assigned to me was very discouraging from the beginning basically saying that this is impossible. Any advice? How general ed classes did you have to take? Did you take A&P? How do you suggest I pace this out? Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing you mean CU's and not classes? I had to take A&P, but I am sure it was totally different now. I did 50CU in just over three months - but it required every waking moment to be spent at school (when not at work) - so it's up to you if you want to do that.

Very encouraging!! I will have about 30 hours weekly to dedicate to school. I hope I can do as well as you did. Congratulations to you again, you should be so proud of yourself. Thanks again!

Well I do not like that your mentor was discouraging to you. I did have some pre req. but total credits I had to do was 43. I took A&ap in my RN class. In my instance my mentor wanted me to do my pre reqs first. Humanities , micro, nutrition, stats. If you do not click with mentor just ask for a new one. Good luck

You will do it. You already sound motivated and have a plan in place. Those that fail are those that do not plan. So you are already ahead of the curve. It is easy to get discouraged but the best advice I can give is do not read every book cover to cover use the books as a resource only to the study guides

Thank you for your encouragement.

I need to get it done in 6 months.

Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Awesome! Congratulations! I'm going there for my RN-MSN in Informatics.

Oh good for you!! And thank you!

Hi tlkSTL. Thanks for sharing. This is very inspiring! My goal is also to try to finish as many CU's in 1 semester since I would like to apply to NP school ASAP. I'd like to ask how you were able to do it: (1) were you able to sign-up for and then work on several classes at a time? (2) is there a required sequence, like do you have to finish one course to move to the next?; (3) since it's CU, do you just take exams or write papers to prove competency? in other words, how was the evaluation of work done? or how was competency proved? Thanks in advance for all your help.

I take issue with that statement.....and it is not failing if someone decides to take all four terms.

Some people just take a little slower to achieve the goal, but they still make it no matter if it takes 6 months or 2 years.

The reason that that most are told to plan at least a year is that life happens.

Some students start new jobs, some students get frustrated with the tasks, some divorce in the middle of term, and some just will not sacrifice life for school-( that is my case).

Hello,

I have a bachelors in another degree so I’m hoping that I won’t need too many clssses for the R.N. to BSN. Already have statistics, biochemistry etc.

1. Any clinical component required ?

2. Discussion boards or group projects ?

3. Typically how many assignments per course? Was it just writing papers or graded tests ?

Were the tests open book?

did they provide textbook material ?

thanks in advance

Hello,

I know this post is almost a year old- however if someone can tell me about biochemistry? What classes should I take to prepare? Is there alot of math involved in the Biochemistry course?

Thanks in advance
