Finished my MSN this morning - ask me anything!

Nursing Students Western Governors

I completed the final oral defense for my MSN through this morning. I also have my BSN from WGU.

Completed RN-to-BSN in one, six month term, and the MSN in 11 months and five days (not that I'm counting!)

Two degrees for under $10K out of pocket, including books. (I received a total of $2K in scholarships)

So----- I'm going to put myself out there and if you would like info about either program from a recent grad -hit me up!

Specializes in Psych, SA, Deaf, Gero, Adolescent, Adult.

Could you please tell me how you found scholarships for this program? I am currently considering 's program, but financial aid is definitely out, as I currently work as an RN & my spouse works as well (our income would exceed financial aid criteria).

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

The beauty of this program is that it's inexpensive enough that most people pay out of pocket. They offer payment plans.

If you can't pay out of pocket, you likely would qualify for an unsubsidized student loan.

Specializes in MICU.

What classes under the msn program are proctored via webcam and what time of assessment is it? is it a test? are they difficult?

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

In addition, many students' places of employment offer tuition reimbursement financial packages that may totally cover the cost of attending.

Thank you so much for this thread!!!!!!!!

I have an RN and BS in Community Health. Would any of my BS community health classes be taken as credit for MSN or BSN or would I have to do everything all over again? And if you were me would you go straight for MSN or get another BS and then go get MSN? a total of 1 year 6 months give or take.

I also know know that I want to teach at community college level. Any idea of how receptive schools are to WGUs MSN in education?

Hello! Did it take you 11 months total or was it 11 months after your bachelors? How did you find the program to be? I am nervous to start because of work and kids and being a single mother :arghh:

I just started my MSN in nursing education at . This is not a program for everyone. If you need hand holding and are not much into research on your own, I suggest another program. I graduated suma cum laude at the University of Texas and found it easier because they guided you step by step. But it took longer and it was VERY expensive. If you are a self motivator, love to research and write, then WGU is for you.

I am in the middle of the RN-MSN Education track (looks like I won't be finishing the MSN until Spring 2017). I was wondering - for any other MSN graduates, what kind of work can I look forward to applying? I started this whole thing because I was interested in teaching. I actually have some other interests, though, like working for a medical device company (I live in Southern California). I was just wondering if there are people who have heard of really fun or really out there jobs that I may not even be considering.

Thanks very much and best of luck everyone.

I began MSN education on August 1. I have so many concerns. What does orientation consist of? Are there a lot of essays and term papers? Is there only one capstone per degree program or per semester? I am so worried that my job and family will interrupt my study time.

same concern here.

Specializes in emergency room.

I am currently in the RN to BSN program at . I've completed 2 classes in 8 weeks. I've been reading a lot about the difficulties of community health. And that the hours required are outrageous. I feel like quitting and transferring now before I am too involved at WGU. Any suggestions?
