Applied today, we'll see what happens

I applied today and I"m looking to start in the Fall, maybe August or September. I was hoping to complete my BSN in 6 months, but maybe that's not doable anymore.

I have some other college classes from 4 year university's (history, statistics, 2 health assessment classes, sociology), so I'm hoping they transfer over in addition to my ADN degree classes. I do have one question though. What the heck is BioChem? I took chemistry and micro with a lab for my ADN, so do I or will I need to take this BioChem class? Just wondering. I'm hoping most of my classes transfer over and I'm only left with the nursing classes.

Any input is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Yes, you will still need to take biochem, even if you took chemistry and/or microbiology. Biochem is looking at chemistry behind health related issues, such as why, on a molecular level, a certain plant is poisonous, or what happens at the cellular level when a person has a metabolic disease.

It's basically taking chemistry and applying it to healthcare and medical issues.

Well thank you for your response. It seems like some Chem classes transfer and others don't...wonder why that is?

Yes, they will most likely make you take biochem. My regular chem with lab was a no-go. =( But it actually sounds like a fun class and there's a '20 day plan' to get it done in that timeframe or sooner. You'll also need nutrition if you don't have it. I'm shooting for two terms and I need tons of extras - it can be done! :)

Well, there's another class...nutrition was incorporated in the PE/Health class for my ADN.

Nutrition is pretty easy. I finished it in less than a week. Biochem is challenging but doable, and I found it very interesting and learned a lot. Once I sat down and quit procrastinating, I was able to get it done in about 3 weeks.

Regardless of how many classes you end up having to repeat the great thing about is that because it's competency based basically once you review the material you can expedite the process and move through the classes fairly quickly. That will then allow you to add in more classes during your term/semester that are newer to you. That is one of the MANY reasons I love WGU!

I want to get it done ASAP..without a "bunch" of GE classes/pre-reqs :(

Bio Chem was great!!! It was actually fun and the lectures were awesome (Professor Wolfe!) Nutrition was easy! Health assessment was interesting and easy to skip the parts you know. Stats sucked; for your stats to transfer to it has to have been taken within the past 5 yrs. I started March 1 and have completed 18 credits (6 courses) and I am enrolled in my 7th and 8th courses. Then one more course and I will have my BSN. :)

I start the the RN to BSN on 7/1. Your statistics has to be current (taken within the past 5 yrs) to be considered for transfer. It sounds like you're going to have to take Biochemistry. Out of GE credits, I only have three to take: statistics (took it in 2000 so way expired), biochemistry, and health assessment. Worst case scenario, you'll have to take several GE classes; chances are that you'd probably finish your degree sooner with than with another school because of how quickly you can move through each class.

Well, I guess I can settle for the Biochem...booo, but I took Statistics in 2010, so I should be good there. I also took 2 HA classes so hopefully they'll transfer too.

Skoolrn - looks like you're moving along nicely, I hope to do the same!

I applied last weekend (5/26) and I am hoping that my transcripts arrive quickly. Passed the readiness assessment, sent in a few other things they asked for. So just waiting on the transcript evaluation and hoping that they are as generous with transfer credits as everyone says they are!

Keeping my fingers crossed for a 7/1 start date. I think transcripts will be the only hold up. Isn't that always the case?

From what I have read, I am fairly confident I will have to take:

Statistics (mine is over 5 years old)

Biochem

Health assessment

I may also have to take a college math class, humanities, and a communications class.

That would probably take up my whole first semester if I do have to take all of those classes. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that is generous and applies a few classes to things like Humanities and Math that do not necessarily fit those categories 100%. I have a math class from college, but it was not labeled "math", it was a medical math class that delt with all of the various math we encounter in practice. Pharmacology, BMI, nutrition...a few other things.

We will see what happens!
