I am looking to double up on nursing classes while in the RN-BSN program. I realize that it might be wiser to take certain classes alone and not double up. This thread is for everyone enrolled in the RN-BSN program to discuss which classes are the most/least difficult.

MikeH2013- Thank you for the information, it is very helpful. Are there any quizzes for any of the three classes? (co-op, vulnerable, and holistic care of the older adult.) How many hours a week did you spend on each class? I wish I would have taken the CEN exam when I was supposed to, but by time I started this program in January I was way too busy doing my SANE course, recert for ACLS and PALS, and busy with this program... I definitely didn't have time to study and didn't feel like taking an exam I didn't study for. It would have been super helpful to save me from taking the co-op and of course benefit me as an ED nurse. Do you know anything about Capstone? What is that?

I will be starting on 9/22 with Technical Writing and Professional Nursing 3645. I also have a bachelor from Tx State but did not require Math Statistics. Does anyone know if I can take statistics along with technical writing and Prof Nursing? Would you recommend it or will it be too much a work load? I work full time, am two months pregnant and have a two and a half year old but did all the same except for the 2 and a half year old throughout nursing school.

I am taking Prof Nrsg and Technical Writing right now, have a 3 year old and work part time. I find it time consuming and I feel guilty for the time it takes away from my son. I think technical writing is more difficult, maybe because its tedious and I enjoy creative writing. I really want A's and therefore put a lot of time into it, but my ultimate priority remains my family. I would say just start with those 2 classes.

Hello all,

I'm beginning the UTA RN to BSN program next month. Taking Professional Nursing - 3645. I already have the books for this class.

My question is what nursing classes do you need to get the books for and which ones can you skip buying the books?

I am about to start Capstone next week. Any advice would be much appreciated? Is it doable? Thank you so much in advance.

Capstone is pretty easy, especially compared to some of the other courses. My advice is to relish the idea of finishing in 5 weeks!

The nursing classes are not difficult save for research. Just time consuming. You should not worry about the RN to BSN as it is quite doable. However, Mathematics, British Literature and federal politics were quite annoying. Just my take on these classes.

Capstone is the final course in the RN-BSN transition and it is ... "undefined". There is a paper that is to be written, but it is up to you as the student to put all of the pieces together. This is proving to be challenging because the directions (as has been noted by others) are quite vague. Once I narrow down my focus, it will become easier, but right now I am trying to decide which direction to take this project.

Those of you who are in the Capstone course, did you wait until the instructor posted the textbook requirements with the syllabus or is there a list of required books on the UTA site you used before the classes started?

There are no textbooks for Capstone. This is what you have learned in the previous 11 months (if you ran through it like I did) or two years or so. Think of it like a 'Choose your own adventure' book, where you are given a handful of vague directions and asked to complete the story. It really is a bit trial and error, but I'm into week 3 and doing well. Best advice, keep up and then get ahead if you can.

I am signed up to take Texas Government and US History in a couple of weeks. I received a phone call and went to voice mail...from my advisor stating he doesn't recommend taking them both together. A little background of me: I have a 7 month old, stay at home dad, and I work full time 3 12's a week. Is this doable? I'd like any and all feedback as I would hate to have to drop a class. These 2 classes (and statistics, which I will be doing outside of UTA) are my only pre-reqs I have left. I'm just finishing up Prof Nursing right now.

I can only offer true feedback on Texas Government. That was loaded class, not hard , but very time consuming. Heavy on reading assignments and discussions, with a couple research papers thrown in along with weekly quizzes. That's just the one class. I imagine US History to be about the same. You have 3 classes to take along with a full time job and a family to take care. I say with the help and support of your stay at home dad and meticulous planning all three may be doable at the same time.
