Traveling to Cedar Sinai in LA

So I'm debating about taking a contract at Cedar Sinai in the ICU. Does anybody have any experience at this hospital? Trying to find reasonable housing seems difficult near that hospital.

I did a pediatric rotation there in nursing school. I had never seen hospital hallways carpeted before!

Very wealthy patient population. Some jokes about it being a Jewish hospital but there is no doubt about the wealthy and famous and demanding patients and families you will see there.

Yes, nearby housing is expensive. Good bus lines so you can live farther away, even the beach. Or Hollywood. There are a lot of choices.

My mother had a lengthy hospital stay at Cedars after undergoing a liver transplantation there in 2002. As the previous poster mentioned, it is a healthcare mecca for L.A.'s rich and influential.

You will probably need to commute to Van Nuys, North Hills or North Hollywood to secure halfway affordable housing. In addition, the clientele is going to be entitled and demanding.

Good luck to you!

These days even meth heads are entitled and demanding.... I have worked in the billionaires of the world type of facility(for 4 years actually) and also the community hospital trauma centers, in the end they are all similar. Alas, I work in surgery so I don't have to deal with families or awake patients for more than a few minutes :).

If you can find affordable housing just to it if you want to see that area and the pay is good for you.

Here's how demanding the Cedars clientele can be...

My mother was receiving a bed bath from the CNA when a family member from another room barges in and demands ice and blankets. Apparently, the petty needs of this rich and entitled woman were more important than my mother's privacy.

The meth-head family members are pretty bad, but they usually don't barge into other patients rooms to monopolize the CNA's limited time.

I agree with all your points. I've had a billionaire patient before that was the owner of a very famous franchise. He had his own personal nurses and staff that stayed with him 24/7 and administration practically bowed at his door all day long like sycophants. They even had the nerve to imply I give him preferential treatment different than I would a typical patient. I refused and the patient (I think) respected the fact that I didn't coddle him and complimented my nursing care to management.

I've also had many "meth heads", homeless and alcohol withdrawal patients and families that were very rude, entitled and demanding consuming much of my time. I'm looking at some places on AirBNB that will rent a furnished room for around $1500 near the site. That seems reasonable for that area.

Does anyone have any experience in their ICU's, which will be where I would be working?

I ❤ cedars. The rent price directly in the neighborhood is wackado but if you do 2-3 miles south twards the 10 on LA Cienega the prices drop quite a bit. My bestie just moved to that area and pays 1200 for a Casita not to far. Check Craigslist

Is this the ICU float position or one particular ICU?

My agent told me that essentially all their ICU positions are "float" even if it doesn't state it directly. I've seen that at other larger facilities who use their ICU Travel Nurses to plug whatever hole they have, even outside critical care area's.

Yup, why hire a medsurg nurse when you can get an ICU one for often the same bill rate? Pretend that you will be working in a specific ICU and float you anywhere.
