Scary Moment in Orangeburg SC

Currently on assignment in Orangeburg, SC. Hospital and coworkers are fine. Hospital won't approve OT so I'm picking up per diem with Nursefinders. Had orientation today. This is were it gets scary. I pull up in front of my apartment this afternoon and there is a Crime Scene Van parked in front of the complex. As I get out of my car, here comes a detective from around my apartment. Apparently, last night in the apartment next to mine, there was a shooting. I heard the gunshoots but thought I was hearing things. Anyway, apparently it was a drug deal gone wrong.

Called my company, there moving me tomorrow. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had something similiar happen while on assignment. So I have to start packing everything up so I can relocate tomorrow.

Be careful in Orangburg they have some bad areas. Im from Columbia, South Carolina so i know about how orangeburg can be don't get me wrong that can happen in any state or city. Just be careful. Its good your called your company and there moving you right away.

glad your okay...while traveling the main thing I always tell my travel company is safety first in an apartment...maybe you should too...good luck...

It has been a learning experience. I have to give my company kudos, when I called them, they moved me the next day. While my company has had other travelers with this hospital, I''m the first to actually stay locally. While, I know that things like this can happen any where, and they do, it is really scary when you are living next door. I appreciate, all the support that everyone had given me. I am enjoying my first travel assignment. It's hard to believe that I am starting my 5th week. I'll need to start thinking about my next road trip soon.:yeah:

I used to work for Orangeburg County EMS and I live in Columbia. I have done assignments in Florence and have had similar issues. The good thing is that your travel company is on top of making sure you are safe and feel safe where you are staying.

Hope your ok. But nothings to say the same thing cant or wont happen at the new place. Thats why they are called random acts of violence. I know anyplace you have apartments you are going to have the potential to have people who how shall I say it are not who might not like to have as your neighbors.

As the economy gets tight companies are going to try to make more with less . So be asking if other travels are you neighbors. I would rather have another nurse living beside me rather than Joe The Street Urchin.
