UTA Online Academic Partnership BSN Program - Dallas Hospitals

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

Hello-

I have just learned about this the online (entire program including pre-req courses) ap bsn program at uta. I read about this on another uta thread but it was not as clear as it was explained today to me. This is similar to the twu weekend bsn program; however, the difference is you will conduct your clinicals at the hospital where you are employed. No matter what position/status where you work (partnered hospital), you can participate in this program at a discounted rate. So far, I believe uta partnered with parkland, baylor and thr but I believe the thr program is different. uta/thr partnership offers full financial support (tuition, fees, and books) by thr for the 2nd bacc bsn program. The ap bsn program only offers you a discount but you would need to use either scholarships or tuition reimbursement from your employer (hospital). :twocents:

I am so impressed with the fact that the entire program is online and it is estimated to take 18 months to complete (again including all pre-courses). The program is laid out great because you can take all pre-req sciences (except gen chem), psychology courses, stats and other pre-reqs online; your clinicals can be worked out with the clinical partnership manager. Since I work full-time in a non-clinical area, weekends would be so much better for me to participate in my clinicals. I believe the manager will be flexible with me on clinicals b/c we work closely together on a weekly basis.

I can start earlier with this program compared to the twu weekend program. Some pre-req courses are only 5-8 weeks long so you can complete your pre-reqs faster and courses are offered more than traditional program.

I would highly recommend this program for any career changes, who cannot afford to stop working full-time but have the desire to change careers into nursing. :redbeathe Go to www.uta.edu/nursing click on prospective students, click academic partnership, click on academic partnership under bsn program and read more about the opportunity.

Please note: you do not have to work at a hospital to be admitted into this program. Once you are admitted into the junior/senior level of the nursing program, uta will coordinate a clinical site for you at one of their partnership hospitals.

Is there anyone out who have started the ap bsn program either fall 2009 or spring 2010? I would love to hear how things are going in the online courses (whether you just started pre-req courses or you are taking the nursing courses).

I hope this has have been helpful information for those of you who really need flexibility while in the 2nd bsn fast track/accelerator program.

look forward to your response!

I only took it once. I registered at Prometrics, which makes a little more financial sense if you're applying to multiple nursing programs because you only have to take it once and can take all the parts you need then, but then decided I was only going to apply at UTA, so I cancelled Prometrics and took oncampus at UTA.

i just graduated with my BA in Communications from UTA and am looking into the Academic Partnership program with UTA..to my understanding you dont have to be employed at a partner hospital or anything and it is pretty easy to get into..But, I am new to the whole nursing thing..SO is this a good deal? or is it a good program?

All the other fast track programs are sooo EXPENSIVE!! or would it be better to just go to a community college and get the ASN???? ugh...HELP! lol

I am very interested in the AP BSN program... can anyone who has attended or knows the answers to the following questions help me out?

1. Do they have clinicals available in Amarillo, Lubbock, or thereabouts?

2. Is it only available to TX residents? I live in the state next door and could make it to Amarillo or Lubbock pretty easily for clinicals... if they will let me.

3. Can you schedule your clinicals in a block, like 4 days in a row every other week or something similar to that? Or is it pretty much only every weekend, and you have to go to Arlington every few weeks as well?

I plan to call the program, but from what I have read on this thread it may take a while to get an answer, so I thought I would see if anyone here knows anything while I am waiting.

I'm not really sure. I personally know people who have low 3 GPAs (e.g. 3.1, 3.2) and have gotten into the program...

hi,

Im also applying to the THR AP BSN program and will hopefully be admitted for the spring of 2011.

Im a little confused about how they calculate the overall GPA.... I had to retake some classes and was wondering if you knew if they take the better grade of the two grades for that one course? or do they average out both grades? If I do really well on the HESI test do you think it would increase my chances of getting into the program?

Hi,

They will accept the better grade from 2 GPAs. Better HESI score will increase your chances to get into the program. Good luck:)

Thank you for answering my question. Have you been admitted into the program or are you still working on your pre-requisites?

Also, is there a limit on how many pre-requisite courses that had to be retaken for a better grade? Please let me know.

Have any of you who applied for the Spring 2011 start have gotten any confirmation that your application was received? I emailed my advisor a couple of weeks ago, and she just said that when they get them processed I will get an email confirming receipt of my app. I was just wondering if anyone else is in the same kind of "did they get my application-limbo?"

Thanks! And good luck to those waiting to hear!

I just got my email today saying that my application has been recieved. They send it to your mavs.uta.edu email.

Also, my advisor said they are trying to get the acceptance letters out by the end of this month in order to meet scholarship deadlines for Baylor.

hope this helps :)

I'm applying and hope I can get it for the summer or fall semester (2011). Are the hospitals and clinicals mainly in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area? I'll be coming in from California with my 2 kids so this program is very appealing to me.

Someone mentioned fast track programs are really expensive. This is one of the cheapest, and may be THE cheapest I've seen. The highest one I've looked at is Samuel Merritt's ABSN for more than 60k.

Has anyone received an acceptance letter for the AP BSN Program for the spring of 2011 yet? or any information about it?

The calendar on the website says we will be notified by November 30. I wouldn't really count on this though because for fall 2010 applications we were supposed to be notified by June and I didn't learn until late August that I had one more class I needed to take so my application had to be pushed to spring. Had I been notified in June like it should have been, I could have gotten the one missing class taken care of in the summer! So frustrating, but get used to it at UTA. They basically have one advisor (and a few people that hardly know what they're doing) and I've missed out on starting the program two semesters now due to things my advisors should have told me (especially when the FAQs on the stateu website say otherwise)!

I wouldn't solely depend or rely on advisors for any degree program to make sure I've got all the classes I need. In my experience, I compare what I have and do not have and email if I have any questions. When I sent my transcripts in, there were 4 classes that weren't marked off on my academic plan. I emailed my advisor back and told her that I've taken those classes (2 in progress) and she marked them off.

You've gotta stay on them.

I did this when I went to college for my Bachelor's too. I had an advisor but only met with him 3 times. I figured out what I had, still had to take, and any additional requirements I had to meet and graduated "on time".

My sister on the other hand, relied on her advisor and was able to graduate in 4 years, but found out she was actually missing one class in order to graduate AFTER she had walked on stage to receive her diploma. I'm just saying, don't rely on advisors to do the work for you and expect they've got it under control.
