Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

@theresa.accord - I'll be at SMCA and I'm looking at a max of 1250. I also have a dog (25 lb and won't be on a breed restriction lists). Apartment hunting from another state is definitely a new experience!

So, the apartments around central/north austin are pretty SMALL for a good chunk. I pay 1100.00 I live close to hyde park. Which is convient, to get around Austin. Most places around here are REALLY dog friendly. The place I live is pretty nice. I was trying to PM you... But I can't. Let see, there's the triangle, mostly UT students, I haven't heard any good reviews about it. But, it's nice and safe. There's Midtown Commons, really nice, dog friendly, convient with metro rail to downtown. If you need any advice on places, you can PM.

Had my interview this morning. Had a good feeling about it. AND I just got an informal offer!!!!

Congrats Theresa!!! ?

Way to go Theresa! Love hearing all the positive news. Looks like we will have a great team in the RN residency program

So awesome everyone! Congrats! Theresa on the job and aed on the phone interview.

The area that SMCA is in is definitely on the pricey side.. If you stay a little more north of it, you'll get more bang for your buck. South Austin is absolutely booming right now but so are rent prices. If your price is for a one bedroom, you should have no problems but if you're looking for anything bigger it'll be pushing it. Also expect to pay a hefty pet deposit and pet rent. Even though Austin is very dog friendly, apts play on that and charge a ton. For my two dogs both under 30# it was $515. Just FYI. I've lived in Austin for 6 years so if anyone needs apt recs lmk

THANK YOU! Since everyone is further in the process, anyone know since we are a cohort do we all meet at the same location? If so which hospital? Im so excited to meet y'all in person!

The Residency class portions are held at the CEC which is at Brackenridge. I am at the CEC for school right now with ACC and I saw the residency groups back in February, there were a lot of ppl, so I'm not sure if we are all together at first and then split it up into to our respective specialties. I would imagine the general "Seton" orientation is done together.

Im excited about it all, but I still have around three weeks of school left and it's hard to concentrate! I'm ready to just be done and take the NCLEX :)

Kat_Walk - I haven't heard anything else, but Michele told me it could take hr a couple weeks to get the paperwork to me. I imagine they're pretty busy right now (though I agree it's hard not to be excited/ready to make it official).

I'm so glad I found this! I was also offered a position in the NICU at SMCA for the June cohort! So excited to get started:)

So I just signed a lease for my apartment today!! Tomorrow I have my health screening and am getting my badge made! It's crazy how fast everything is happening.

Congrats on all the offers and interviews! I am so excited to meet our cohort :)

Hey all, I went and did my health screening today! So exciting to get all this going. I wonder if we unknowingly saw each other 0o10? Now I am just waiting to take my last two tests and graduation is May 7th!

Has anyone received any more offers or interviews?

Also, is everyone doing an NCLEX review course?? I'm going to do the NCSBN one- they are the people who write the NCLEX (NCSBN's Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination v7.0.1 - Students - NCSBN Learning Extension). They have a 5 week course for $70 which is SO reasonable, especially compared to the $300 that Hurst and Kaplan charge. Just thought I'd pass it along since they aren't as well known as the other two.

texaslvn12, I also signed up for the NCSBN review as well. Just FYI, once you sign up your time starts counting down...I thought I had the ability to start my review when I was ready to but this isn't the case.

I also did the Hurst live review during our winter break before S2. Once you sign up, you have unlimited access to their live reviews for a year and you have the ability to access your online content review when you are ready to. So I'll attend Hurst again after graduation for a nice refresher :)
