How to find a job in southern california - new grad
I'm sorry to hear you're having a hard time finding a job. Every time I tell anyone how difficult it is to get a job as a new nurse, they get that shocked look and say "but I heard there's a nursing shortage." I don't really have any great advice for you for getting a job here in CA. I ended up looking outside the area and was fortunate enough to get a position in my dream unit in TX, but I understand relocating isn't really an option. If you're limited to the area, I think it makes it even more important to try and make an impression on the people that might hire you. That could mean volunteering so you can participate in an organization and network or even seeing if you can meet with unit managers to introduce yourself and sell your impressive experience. Most of my classmates who got jobs here did so at facilities they were working or volunteering at - sometimes it really is about who you know. Though other times it seems nothing can get your resume out of the new grad application black hole. Sorry I don't have any awesome advice, but I hope you find something soon! I will say its hard to keep a positive attitude with all the rejection, but I think it's important to try!

@theresa.accord - I'll be at SMCA and I'm looking at a max of 1250. I also have a dog (25 lb and won't be on a breed restriction lists). Apartment hunting from another state is definitely a new experience!

Kat_Walk - I haven't heard anything else, but Michele told me it could take hr a couple weeks to get the paperwork to me. I imagine they're pretty busy right now (though I agree it's hard not to be excited/ready to make it official).

Which would be better? ADN or BSN?
I would definitely recommend the BSN. In my area, many of the hospitals are "Magnet" status, which requires they have a certain number of BSN nurses. My mom, who has her ADN and over 15 years experience, faced some issues when trying to find a new job, and many of the positions were requiring that she commit to getting her BSN as a contingency for hiring her. If you have the option to do BSN or ADN, I would recommend the BSN.

How did you celebrate your nursing school acceptance letter?
I was anxiously awaiting my letter, and they were going out later than the school originally said. I asked my little brother to call me if anything came in the mail (it was a Saturday and I had to work.) Instead, my brother drove the letter to my work and I practically ripped it open. After I got off work, my family and I went to dinner. My sweet boyfriend gave me a gift - a stethoscope he had bought "knowing I'd get in." Now... anxiously awaiting my July start date!
