  1. So I just signed a lease for my apartment today!! Tomorrow I have my health screening and am getting my badge made! It's crazy how fast everything is happening. Congrats on all the offers and interviews! I am so excited to meet our cohort :)
  2. Congrats annbananz! Was curious as to why you chose SMCA over UMCB? I had an interview for both, but cancelled my interview at SMCA once I was offered Brack (my first choice because I love trauma). I'm moving down from Dallas, so I have no experience with either hospital. Is the only major difference just the types of patients? Feel free to PM me/not answer if this question is too personal!
  3. I can't send private messages because I haven't posted enough I shouldn't get in trouble for posting this right? lol. Base pay is 23.19/hr with +4 night differential and +2.25 on top of that for weekend nights.
  4. Just got my call from HR and have officially accepted my place in the June cohort! Found out what I will be making and what the differential is for nights and weekends. They told me they'll send an email containing all the information about benefits, NCLEX deadlines and scheduling a health screening day pretty soon, so I should check my email multiple times a day. Can't believe how fast everything is happening!
  5. Congrats Carb0n! Pretty sure all the critical-care people will be training together so I will definitely be seeing you!
  6. Just got my informal offer for the ICU RN Residency at Brack!!
  7. Congrats on all the interviews! :) I had my ICU panel interview for UMCB Friday so I thought I'd share how that went for those who asked. I actually had a really great time at my interview. I was asked a few questions, but for the most part the conversation flowed naturally from topic to topic. It was very laid back, which I loved. They really want to get to know you as a person, so my best advice to anyone waiting for a panel interview is to relax and just be yourself! They don't want to hear the same answers from everyone, so be honest about everything and don't just tell them what you think they want to hear. Good luck everyone!
  8. I have ICU interviews at Brack, SMCA, and Hays. My online application for all 3 still says "under review". My ICU interview for Brack is tomorrow! Making the drive down to Austin tonight.
  9. Finally got in touch with the hiring manager for Brack this morning. I have a panel interview for the ICU this week! They're interviewing 16 people for 4-6 spots.
  10. Anyone else heard from Brack? I missed a call from the hiring manager yesterday evening (after 7) telling me to contact him. I called him back several times today and left a message, but haven't heard back yet (I'm sure they're crazy busy right now). Kind of nervous! Hopefully I can get in touch tomorrow.
  11. Hey guys, well I just had a surprise phone interview with Hays, so they are still contacting people. They said they are still weeding through applicants and will call to schedule formal interviews sometime in the next week. I don't think my phone call was for ICU, but more of an IMC-hybrid type of unit. I applied to Hays, but did not talk to their recruiters or give them my resume at the Open House, so don't feel discouraged if you did not attend! I also contacted my nurse recruiter and scheduled my time for my ICU interview at SMCA. They will interview 12-15 people for 4 spots.
  12. Hi everyone! Been a longtime lurker, but I recently applied to the Seton Healthcare System as well~ I attended the Open House and everything in February, and was contacted yesterday via email to call about interviewing for the ICU at SMCA! I was told last week by the recruiter that SMCA would be contacting the people for ICU interviews there this week, and then interviewing the second week of April. There are 4 spots in the RN Residency for ICU at SMCA. I feel the reason I got the interview was the Open House. When everyone was in line for the SMCA recruiter, the ICU managers table was empty, so they are who I talked to. Managers will interview you, not the hiring coordinators. Good luck everyone!
  13. I'm working as a group leader tomorrow at orientation, and I'm SO excited to meet you Dallas J1's! Remember to get a full nights rest tonight, and don't forget your $$$! Orientation is pretty exhausting! (and expensive ) Don't forget to use your group leaders, they'll tell you what you REALLY need to buy now, verses all the stuff they try to sell you that you won't ever use. Have fun tomorrow!
  14. It is very do-able, though I would caution against it. The people that I know who tech are doing fine in school, but it is VERY difficult. Time management is super important and if your good with that, then you should be okay a long as your not doing more than 1-2 shifts a week. Here's my schedule for reference, I'm sure Houston's is very similar: M- Assessment lecture 2pm-4:30 Tu- Pharm 9am-12. Concepts lecture 2-5 W- Assessment lab 8am-12or1 Th-Concepts lab 8am-2. This class is the first 5-6 weeks, then you starts going to clinical on this day instead of lab. (clinicals are usually from 6:30am-1ish) F-nothing M-Tu is the same for everyone, labs are different and your generally split up into those by clinical groups. Ex: Some people have concepts lab/clinicals on Friday and they have Thursdays off. You should get your schedule at orientation.
  15. Hey Guys! Congrats on all the acceptances! The TWU nursing program is very competitive, and it looks like they took even less applicants this semester, so don't be discouraged if you didn't make it this time around. I'm currently a J1 at TWU Dallas, so if anyone has any questions about anything (teachers/classes/books/supplies/clinicals ect.), just ask! I know I had a TON of questions before and even more so after orientation, so just though I'd let you guys know I'm here lurking
