pay rates in dfw area for rn

I am applying to El Centro ADN rn program for Fall 2009. I am doing this because nursing is what I feel passionately about, but I also would like to earn a decent wage. From some posts I am gathering that the starting for rn is around 20-25 hour. Is this correct. I could have sworn that advisors quoted upwards of 30 per hour and they said once you earn your bsn with work experience that you can pretty much set your own salary rate and get it. Not that earning less will deter me, I am choosing the nursing field to help and contribute to humanity in some way, but it is informative to know approximately how much I may earn. Many of my RN colleagues in the DFW area are earning in excess of $30 hourly, but they've all got experience and can command that pay. It is unlikely that a new grad in the hospital setting will receive a starting base wage of $30 per hour. Hospitals in the area are paying an average base rate of $23 (some pay slightly more and others are paying less).

In summary, it is unrealistic for a new RN to expect a starting wage of $30 per hour in DFW if you have absolutely no experience aside from nursing school clinical rotations.

You pretty much have to start out around $23, work for a few years with whatever raises your hospital gives, then switch to another as you get more experience.

From what I've heard, this is the only way to really start making 'good' money. Although, from making $0, and now making $23/hr, it is a big jump already. haha.... However, if you already are used to making decent money, some have to go down in pay to do their life dream....become a nurse.

When I first started back to school, the starting rate was $19-21/hr. Now it is $21-25, depending on where you get hired on at. So, maybe by the time you finish, it will be more....but then again, so with the cost of living.

My first RN rate was $12.07/hr (OKC, '94). I'll leave out the part about walking to work...uphill both ways...barefoot in the snow.

I am starting work soon and the base pay for most hospitals is between $21-$25, Parkland being the highest paid. This doesn't include night and weekend differentials, and starting out as a new GN you'll probably be working nights. So working weekends and night you can make $30+/hr.

Side Question:

Will a BSN earn more as new RN over a ADN as new RN?

Will a BSN earn more as RN for 5 years, vs. ADN with 5 years exp?

For the first question, in the DFW they make the same rate. The town I came from though paid those with a BSN $0.50/hr more. So not really a big difference. I don't know about those with experience though.
