Old lady with 3.92 trying for TWU

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello,

I'm an older student, 35, going back to school. Graduated from UT Austin in '93. I have decided to make a career change. Just had a baby and make pretty decent money now. However, I really want to become a nurse for more reasons than I should bore you with.

Two questions,

Is a 3.92 GPA on my core classes good enough? I got a B in one History class. The rest As. But the history class does count in the core GPA.

Guess if I don't get accepted, I could spend that semester retaking History. yeah!

Because of the .4 GPA bonus they give, is it going to be virtually impossible for 4.0 GPAs to get accepted?

Also, anyone my age going back to school with kids?

Thanks for any input.

OMG! You sound like me thinking that you are an old lady. Is mid thirties old? I hope not. When I read your Re I thought you were gonna be some 70yr old. LOL Good Luck~

Sorry, I didn't want to offend anyone. I use "old lady" jokingly. I tried to change the thread title to "35 year old mom" but it wouldn't let me.

You are not old! You are refined! I posted a response in your other thread in the nursing success stories. Good luck to you!

Girl, youare not old. I'm 35 trying to make a career change. You shouldn't have any worries with that GPA. I'm worried to death ovet my 3.5. I'm praying and hoping cause I do not want to take any classes over. I'll be praying for both of us.

Oh, I have two kids well three if you count my husband. I work from home so hopefully everything will work out when I get in cuz we need both our incomes as my husband is in school too.

Hello!

I'm a "nontraditional" student as well with 3 young children, so you are not alone in your attempt at a career change.

As little as two years ago, your GPA was the only thing that mattered at TWU (at least the Dallas location) ... but now it is GPA plus the NET test. A couple of years ago, the GPA cutoff was in the 3.7-3.8 range. Now it is down to 3.5-3.6 because of the NET test being a factor. Instead of re-taking history, I'd be prepared for the reading section of the NET test :twocents:

Best of luck to you :)

fingers crossed...good thoughts

Hiyo!

Ahh, FYI.... as for the 0.4 GPA bonus they give, it is only for students who took their prerequisite courses at TWU and not any other universities.

And anyway, the admissions counselors told me you have to have a 3.7 to be competitive. Hopefully they are a little forgiving because I have a lower GPA than that.

Hoohahahahhoooohahahaha!

Excuse me. Old. Haaaaaahoooheeee!

I went back at 52. You'll be fine, kid.

Good luck to you!

The reading section of the NET test was more difficult than I expected it to be.
