Lonestar Fall 2013 hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application for the Fall 2013 Lonestar College basic track ADN program. LSC-Montgomery is my first choice, followed by LSC-North Harris, and LSC-Tomball.

I applied with an 11.81. Has anyone else out there applied, or are you preparing to apply?

Looking forward to starting a supportive and informative Lonestar thread, as applicants have the past few years

WOW! a pay cut? Where are you moving from? Which St. Luke's are you interviewing with? Will you be attending NH?

Yes, a pay cut! And a nice one at that. I'm moving from Dallas. I interview in The Woodlands and I will be at a NH.

Working as a PCA/PCT is a good job for a student. Once you get a semester or so of hospital experience (through clinicals) you'll be a good candidate. You'll also be qualified to sit for your CNA. Being a sitter or monitor tech are good options, too, especially if you work at night. Studying!

Just be aware that you may have to put it hundreds of applications before you even get a call. Some hospitals have outright told students they don't like to hire us because they put so much into training us and they know we're leaving soon. Hospitals who do hire students are flooded with applicants because we ALL need a job in a hospital or we're pretty much screwed getting a new grad job in phone.

"Very few hours" is relative, but your best bet is to find a PRN job. Most hospitals only require you to work two or three days a month. Be wary of part-time jobs because the weekend commitment is high and tests are on Mondays at Montgomery - that's kicked a few people's behinds.

Stephalump, you said tests are on Mondays at moco? How often do they have things to do on Fridays? My friend at NH says they take their tests every other friday.

Mmmm I can't really remember. In the beginning there were a couple Friday classes since there's so much going on those first few weeks Then there are group project presentations and extra clinical days I think maybe I had to be there 4 Fridays that first semester?

This might have already been a discussion on here, but I am too lazy to look back hundreds of pages. Does anyone know where to get inexpensive physicals?!

Did you use your stethoscope in summer class? What kind of watch do you or professor recommend?

Yep, you need your stethoscope for blood pressures in the summer. As far as a watch goes, I'd just invest in something cheap and easy to clean, like one of those colorful rubber watches they sell at Walmart/Target. Just imagine all the things you can get on it in the hospital

You can get a physical for $30 at express family clinic in the woodlands.

Did ya'll take the HESI after taking A&P 1 AND 2 or did you take it right after A&P1? I'm taking A&P2 this summer, and was just wondering if I should wait until after that class to take the HESI....
