Brianna, do you always have clinicals at the hospital where you work?

Don't stress too much about the checkoffs -- those aren't that bad. I was nervous going in, but the lady watching me was really nice about it. (I was considering something other than nursing and started taking that class this past Spring -- now I wish I hadn't dropped it when I decided to become a nurse).

It's hard to think it could be even faster than it is. Wow! I don't think I could do that much in one year.

Brianna,

How is it going at Arlington Memorial? Are you liking your hours? What about the pharm class? I'm sure you're super busy!!!

My countdown is missing :(

Jaxia what else where you taking? Are you saying you wished you ahd finished those classes this past semester along with your nursing classes?

I know folks say to be happy for the breaks, but I kind of wish it did go straight through. Revving up to "full-on study state" is easy for me, but revving down is HARD. Once I get going I like to keep going unil I'm done so I can take advantage of the momentum. It helps me avoid procrastination. That is why summers off bother me. I would have to stay at least partially busy in the summer with a class or two or an internship to keep my mind in gear.

I was taking the first couple of HPRS courses (I don't remember the numbers) and pharm. In one, I had to learn med term and do vital skills, cath and wound dressings; the other covered medical ethics and stuff.

Sorry for the confusion -- I am not in the program yet. I am applying for Spring 07. They are looking at adding that HPRS class as a pre-req for nurses and running a pilot program for Fall 06 by having students take the class. It sounds like the one with skills checkoffs and med term could have potentially helped me if I had finished it.

As for having summers off, I agree with you! I'd rather keep busy and finish earlier. I bet it would be hard to have that program standard because people need to work during summers.

Personally, I'm going to try my best to get some kind of job at a hospital during the summers.

I had orientation for the summer clinical at Parkland and I was the only 2nd semester student hahaha. Most of them were going into 3rd or 4th semester. I hope they'll be of assistance to me. They told me they would teach me how to give injections which I am excited about as that's one of the first skills check offs!

They also said major careplans for 2nd semester are due after the first 4 weeks so whatever you have in the beginning- M/S, OB, or Pedi is what you have to write your major on. PLUS the Pharm test is that first few weeks. They said 2nd semester was the worst

Thanks! I will! :chuckle

Allison,

Maybe I missed something - are you taking a summer clinical or are you in the pilot program? Did the other students say why 2nd semester was the hardest?

Is this the one week clinical at Parkland?

The thing that most scares me about 2nd semester is the last skills check off. It is when you have only one chance to do it or you fail the whole semester, isn't it? :uhoh3:
