DFW- where should I live?

U.S.A. Texas

I'm not familiar with many parts of Dallas. I have been to Irving although from what I hear its growing very rapidly and the prices are rising sharply! It seemed like a nice safe area but very cookie cutter and... a bit too cramped. Someone told me that Fort Worth is surrounded by little towns and might be more my style. I definitely want a LOW CRIME area where my kids can play outside and where the neighbors know one another and create a sense of community.

I'm very interested in working a trauma center like Parkland when I graduate...although that seems to be right in the heart of Dallas. From those who live in the area or are familiar with it... could you advise me on what might be right for me? I'd like to find an area where I could buy a 3-4 bedroom home for 200-250k with the attributes listed above. But I also do not want to commute in traffic for hours each day... I would however be willing to park and ride if there is a program like that in place and if it's safe for me to do so.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Everyone here seems to love the Mid-Cities,Arlington and HEB area . I cant stand all the congestion and traffic. I got sick to my stomach the other day trying to get to the parks mall. I was on I35 South to Burleson about 2 hours ago and the traffic was so bad (no wrecks).. I thought what is this area coming to. I dont know I think its time for me to head down closer to the hill country to many people fighting over the roads and the houses are so close you can shake hands from your windows (not everywhere but alot of places). Dont get me wrong here folks there are plenty of great people here in the DFW area, but Im not for all the congestion and sounds of cars speeding by your house 24 hours a day. But to each his own.....

I agree. Sitting in traffic for hours is not going to work for me. I guess that's why I was hoping to work close enough to downtown or inside it to get to everything I want... Thank you all for the replies!!!

I live in SW Fort Worth and work in Richland Hills. This is why I work the night shift, nicer commute even with early morning traffic. :)

Cityview Care Center by chance?

What a coincidence! I work at a facility that is located in the Cityview area of Fort Worth, directly on Bryant Irvin Road. The area is beautiful, well-manicured, peaceful, and desirable.

I work at Parkland currently and live in a small (But growing) town named Forney, just East of Mesquite. In terms of housing, we have 2 acres and a 2,400 sf custom home for less than you quoted above, great school district (with bus service to all schools).

It takes me 35 minutes to get to work....I have 3-4 different routes that I can go in case traffic is backed up one way. We love the small town feel, but also the growth here is phenomenal!

I'm not a fan of the Arlington area. It's way too congested. One time I was trying to get from Arlington to Fort Worth at 3am and it took me 3 hours because of traffic! Crime and schools in Arlington seem to be fair hit-or-miss, too.

I live 1 hr north of Dallas. We live in a quiet area with not a lot of traffic. I rather drive for an hour than sit in traffic for an hour.

Yours is a rare experience and probably due to the fact that Burleson has had road construction going on for years it seems on I 35.

I live in Arlington and work in Ft.Worth and a day like you described might happen ONCE year and that would be a mulitiple vehicle trauma/crash. I have a 15-18 minute commute and very little to NO traffic. You have to plan where you are going to live so that you are either going into the city at off peak times or you are going against the normal 9-5 traffic pattern. It IS possible to do this and live in the mid-cities.

I don't live in the downtown area; however, I live in South Fort Worth near the town of Crowley.

Areas to avoid would be Woodhaven, the northside (by 28th Street), and the southeast side (east Lancaster Street and east Rosedale Street), as these are higher crime areas.

I live in north Fort Worth and love it. Small town named Saginaw with beautiful and quiet suburbs. Our development has homes from the 140's to the 300's. Wonderful neighbors and great schools. I work downtown and at 0615 it takes me about 20 -25 minutes to get to work, and at 1400 it takes me 30 minutes to get home. PM me if you want any details as i am not checking the board that frequently right now.
