Work's reaction when you mention CRNA school

Hey everyone! I just wanted to see what reaction others have got after they told their manager or co-workers they are pursuing or leaving for anesthesia/CRNA school??

On my ICU unit, once its out in the open that you are headed for anesthesia school- you are pretty much destined to have the worst patient assignments on unit, PAIRED together :uhoh3: :mad:. And the reason is "well you're leaving for anesthesia school anyway". However, the nurses who are in school to become a Nurse Practitioner (NP) do not get this treatment.. it's strictly meant for those nurses going for CRNA. I'm not asking for the sickest patient assignments on the unit, but why does it have to be that way??? :confused:

Yep, I have been getting the worst assignments and have been getting all kinds of comments-not for long though:)

Sad to see you guys work with immature staff. My coworkers and managers have known my intentions for well over a year now and the only hazing I get is them threatening to leave my patients in poop when I come to pick them up for OR one day.

don't they know: 1) you are now working on the north shore! and 2) we bring 'em back like we find them. (usually referring to tubes, lines, drains, c-collar and what-have-you, but i think it works here also)

I agree, sounds like an immature unit. Jealousy could be a possible motivation. Is it the same person making the assignments? I don't go around the unit broadcasting it, but when my co-workers find out they congratulate me. I'm starting the same program with one of my co-workers and I haven't seen any different treatment towards him either.

My unit was known for being a stepping stone to CRNA school, but we still had some of that as well. I made sure to never share until I needed recommendations just to ensure I didn't stir the pot, and didn't tell them I was leaving until I put in my 2 weeks. I felt bad, but those last 2 weeks I'm pretty sure my crappy assignments weren't an accident. I feel your pain! I would have to say jealousy is a likely factor...sadly.

When I let the cat out of the mouse I still had good assignments, in addition people sent me farewell wishes, good bye emails, and a POTLUCK! Oh, and I was called a traitor more than once per shift :smokin:

Still miss that unit, but I love being unemployed more :lol2:
