But they don't have money for clinical faculty, so cutting admissions would save money. My class was the first class to have 60, it was 50 prior to us, and the only reason they could add 10 more was because of the grant from the VA. Maybe the VA hasn't renewed the grant? Last I heard, they still had the grant and still were admitting 60 people, but that was a few months ago.

I hadn't heard they were cutting the number down. I do know that we don't have enough clinical faculty and we are having to spend two of our clinical days first semester in the simulation lab instead of in the hospital and that is based on number of faculty. Those that applied, best of luck to you. I am really enjoying it so far. A lot more time intensive than I figured it would be but it is enjoyable and I have made a lot of friends in my clinical group that are all really great people. We are definatly a team that helps each other as much as we can. I too have heard about the dropout rate at Trident. I don't think there is any evil reason. i think it is a function of their admissions policy. If you meet the quals you get in. If you don't make it, the college has plenty of people who want to take your spot.

I just found out I did not get in. I am pretty disappointed. I am thinking about applying again for next semester but I am not sure if my odds would be any better. Good luck to everyone.

Sorry to hear that Although I know that doens't help much.
Did you ask what your weak points were? Or did you find out in the mail?

I called and asked...they said that the number of people who applied worked against me. She said my gpa just was just below the lowest gpa they accepted. She also said they had never had this many applicants before.

    How was your pre-req GPA?

And I'd believe it about the number of applicants...over 400 for 60 spots???
  8. by nics1286
my cum. gpa was a 3.15 and my pre-req gpa was a 3.5

I am on the wait list... I am so thankful to still have the hope of an opportunity to start there. I am a little disappointed though that I have to continue to wait, but I know that God has a plan for me! I will be completing my prereqs this summer in anticipation of good news.

Does anyone know how the wait list works?

How did you all find out? (letter, phone call, email)??
I haven't heard anything. Called and was told notifications wouldn't be made for another week?!

I got a letter in the mail, it was a thin envelope I am local so maybe I got mine sooner than others?

They use the waitlist to fill any spots that become opened, either from people deciding to go to another school, not being able to get all of the required documentation in (vaccines, drug screen, etc.) or people who can't go for any other reason. Since a lot of people apply to multiple schools, they may not all choose MUSC, so if you're high up on the waitlist you still have a decent chance of getting in before they start. Good luck!
