MUSC Accelerated BSN

Does anyone know if this is a good program? I'm thinking about applying for it for Fall '08, but I don't know anyone who has gone to the school. I would love to know anything from quality of faculty to design of the program to how difficult it is to get accepted. Do most people who start the program graduate? Does anyone work during the program? Really anything would be very appreciated!

If you don't mind me asking what were your scores? When you didn't get accepted did they tell you how you could improve your chances? A girl I know applied 4 times before she finally got accepted, and she just started in the Spring 2010 class. She retook some classes and tried to get some work experience.

When I applied at the beginning of January they had gotten I think 320 applications and another 260 people had begun to fill them out online (who knows if they were ever submitted). I am just so nervous! I am applying to get moved up to Fall of 2010 at Trident but MUSC is by far my first choice!

Specializes in PICU.

I think it's a shame that MUSC took away the GRE requirement, because most people haven't taken that yet, so it gave you a chance to study for it. I had really good GRE scores and I'm sure that helped me get in. Another thing to keep in mind, when I applied I was told that although volunteer experience was only 5% of the application, if I didn't have it, I pretty much wouldn't get in. I'm guessing they now have that combined into the "resume" part, but if you don't have any medical work or volunteer experience, that might help if you need to apply again.

Something else that I'd just like to add if you're considering Trident is the education you get there will be different. They have large numbers of people who do not make it through the program, I have heard their attrition rate is as high as 50%. To me, this says that they feel they admit people who shouldn't be nurses, but they'll take their money for a semester or two and then kick them out. They do not feel like they need to support their students. In my class, we had one person leave the program due to personal reasons (not performance reasons), but everyone else graduated. MUSC supports and cares about the success of their students. That was something that I really valued, because nursing school is hard and stressful and at some point you will need that support. Personally, I think it would be better to go to a school outside of the Charleston area than to go to a school with a high attrition rate. Just something to think about, but I hope you all get in so it isn't an issue!

When I did not get in the first time, I called the admissions. They told me what kind of scores I got. The lady also told me what I needed to fix which turned out to be my SAT score. They are very friendly. She pulled up my application and reviewed it with me all over the phone so I did not have to even make a trip down there. Does anyone know exactly when they plan on sending out the letters? Also for all of you who have gotten in 1. congratulations and 2. Do you get a large envelope when accepted? I do not know what I have been so concerned with what the size of the envelope but I am DYING to know! Good luck to all and best of luck!

I got a big ol' envelope when I was accepted (for Fall '09). :) I know how you feel about the envelopes! My SO is applied to grad schools and now whenever I check the mail I freak out when there are any envelopes. "Oh god! It's a small one! He didn't get in! ..Oh good, it's just a bill."

That is the worst thing I think that colleges do. Everyone knows that a little envelope is a bad thing. That makes it even worse if you see that you got a small envelope from MUSC. Good thing yours was just a bill :yeah:

How many of you still had pre-reqs to take when you applied??

I still have pre-reqs to complete. Two in the spring semester (psychology and a/p 2) and micro in the summer. I heard that they would prefer that you have them completed but I am taking the chance. If I don't get in I am going to do the early decision for the Spring 2011 class since by then I will have all of the prereqs done. I already had a bachelors so I am not sure if that makes a difference either.

I am SO nervous. We should be getting them around March 1st. I wonder how many people applied. Has anyone asked?

Just found out... they had 400 applicants...

I just called to change my address and she said that they will be sending out notifications in the middle of March. I was hoping we would be finding out in 2 weeks. :crying2:

I can't believe they had 400 applicants..that is almost double last application period

Hi everyone! I am new to this board, but I applied to the program for Spring of 2010. I only made it to alternate status, and hope to get in this time! I didn't hear anything from MUSC until about a month and a half after the application deadline. Good luck to everyone! I hope we can all meet in the Fall!
