MUSC Accelerated BSN

Published

Does anyone know if this is a good program? I'm thinking about applying for it for Fall '08, but I don't know anyone who has gone to the school. I would love to know anything from quality of faculty to design of the program to how difficult it is to get accepted. Do most people who start the program graduate? Does anyone work during the program? Really anything would be very appreciated!

Nics...

When you submitted your application, was your essay 100 words or did you go over? I keep hearing a lot about how important the essay is but how in the world can you descrbie your ability to contribute to the nursing field in 100 words or less?

My essay was 150 words. I tried to cut it down as much as possible. I am hoping that it will be ok. I am more worried about my GPA because it is only a 3.1

Mine is right over 100, its just makes me feel so stunted. My undergraduate GPA was 3.41 and my Masters was 3.77, but I heard MUSC is really hard to get into...The whole thing makes me so nevrous.

I also hear how important the essay is but not from anyone at the university. I can't really believe anything limited to 100 words could be that important. Mine was exactly 100 words. Maybe thats why I was not initially selected. I don't know. 100 words is a dumb limit and I have worked on college admissions before. If I get a chance to comment on the application process to the school that is my big issue. 300 to 500 seems reasonable in that a person can express themselves fully but it isn't too much of a burden on the school.

Best of Luck to you guys!

Charlestonsaling,

Are you in the program now? How is it? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Also can you let me know a little about age of students. I am 30 and would start the program at 31. I don't really want to be the old lady of the class!

No I am one of the ones who start in January. I'm 36 and at the mini orientation I figure if I am not the oldest, I'm in the top 3 for sure. Most people were in there mid to late 20s. At 31 I doubt you would be the old lady.

Charlestonsailing! Congrats on getting in. That is awesome. I'll be moving to Charleston from Asheville NC. I have a few friends in the Charleson area but would defintely want some people close to my age so pal around with, especially if we are going to be so consumed with school!

My class ranged in ages from 20 to 40. There are lots of us in our 30's, but I can't say I ever felt like age was an issue. After surviving the program together, you feel pretty close to everyone, regardless of age.

Thanks so much for your insight. Have you completed the program?
