What to wear?

  1. Hello, New to the forum .

I have been an RN for 20+ years. In the last year became a nurse sub, and in the last month I have ended up the long term sub at an elementary school with the potential to apply for the position. I am sure I'll have lots of questions, but for now just this: We are given the option to either wear scrubs or professional attire. The other nurses in the district all wear professional clothes. I started doing that until I had to deal with a stomach bug running rampant through the school. I now wear scrubs. Curious as to what all of you wear.

I wear scrubs. The district I subbed in previously, the nurses wore casual attire. I specifically asked about it when I subbed, and they said "something easy to move around in." Makes sense to me! And yeah...I'd rather not get fluids on my real clothes!

Thanks- the scrubs do seem much more practical, but the other nurses are so dressed up I was questioning myself.

Mostly scrubs, but I sometimes switch it up. Today I am wearing black yoga pants, a long light grey hoodie and an infinity scarf to cover up my girls (The hoodie is low cut)
    And flat Uggs.

I was going to wear my long light grey hoodie and infinity scarf today but they were dirty from the weekend. Instead I'm wearing a blue long sleeve, 100% cotton, crew neck T-shirt. Tomorrow I'm going to wear a blue long sleeve, 100% cotton, crew neck T-shirt; and Wednesday, and Thursday, and Friday...yes, Duncan, as most of our AN school nurse family knows, I wear the same kind of shirt every day.

I wear both. M-W at our school is "professional attire" for all. So I usually wear "real" clothes. Th/Fr we can wear jeans, so on those days I either wear jeans or scrubs. I only wear scrub pants though, never the tops. I like wearing our school sweatshirt as my top.

Initially, I was supposed to wear business casual, but getting vomit/blood out of my dress pants became a problem, so I asked if I could switch to scrubs. Admin never did bother to answer my emails, so I went for it anyway. However, now that I'm pregnant, I've switched back to semi-professional attire because nothing fits!
The only important thing is that on Wednesdays we wear pink!

I asked when I started if I could wear scrubs and they told me to wear whatever I wanted as long as it was clean and neat. So I wear scrubs everyday and friday is charity jeans day (wear jeans for $1 donation) and I usually wear jeans with a school sweatshirt.

Yes, we wear Pink on Wednesdays here, Duncan.

No scrubs allowed here. Only credentialed school nurses can wear a white scrub jacket (none of them actually do). We have a very lax dress code, I've seen everything from jeans and those sparkle flip flops on my fellow non-credentialed nurses to someone like me who dresses like Bernadette from Big Bang Theory everyday. Well, Friday's I wear jeans.

I wear scrubs most days. Today I am wearing "skinny" jeans (well, nothing on me is actually skinny...), black boots, a green fleece vest and a white shirt underneath. We have a pretty casual dress code here at school. Sometimes I wear leggings and a longer dress.

All of my scrubs are solid colored tops and bottoms. I used to wear patterned tops, but I spent 3 years working in a hospital with a dress code (white tops, maroon pants for all nursing staff) and now I have a hard time wearing patterns. I picked out a couple of patterned tops when I took this job, and I haven't worn them. It's a weird aversion, I know.

I wear scrubs mostly. Our school lets us wear jeans whenever we like (which is awesome, they want the educators to be comfortable while they teach) so on Thursdays and Fridays I usually wear jeans with a school shirt.

And of course, the required pink on Wednesdays. If you forget you have to sit at the *other* table... unless you bring chocolate.
