School Nurses and Grad School

Specializes in School Nursing.

We've gone rouge on some threads and discussed our higher-learning pursuits, so figured starting a thread other's can share our stories for others to reference would be nice.

I live in a state where getting my CSN was half of a Master's in Education with a School Health Administration focus.

I put that on hold for a bit to get my Master's in Nursing with a Nurse Education focus at a school that was more affordable and I could do quicker. I'll be going back for the M.Ed. once this is done.

I'm on the professional contract, so movement up the pay scale is for total credits, not really focused on the "what" part, as long as you complete a Master's along the way. I figured the MSN focus would open up some potential teaching opportunities at local nursing schools - which I've already been approached about!

As a side note, I love when people ask if I ever plan to go back to school to become a hospital nurse. The looks on their faces when I explain that I went to graduate school to specialize in school nursing always amuses me.

I would love to go back to school, get my MSN in Nursing Education and teach nursing school, but I have to get my BSN first. I was a teacher, then went to nursing school for an ADN, which is all that is required where I am in TX. I'd also love to get my NCSN certification. I would only get a pay increase once I had my MSN, and I believe it's only $1000 per year, so there is no incentive to do it. The local community college is supposed to start offering a BSN in the next year, at community college prices, so I may pursue that. My son is starting college in a year, and I just can't afford university tuition for both of us.

so... i started my first grad school class this past Monday. Holy rusty batman! I am definitely flexing parts of my brain that haven't been worked out in a while. APA citations - waaaah!!! I forgot how much that stuff drove me nuts.

Why am I doing this again??

noodle tools! just checked it out - love it! i have never heard of it before, but you can bet i'm getting a subscription.

I am a classic over- thinker. I've got my first forum posting due in a few days and i can't stop tweaking it before i get ready to copy it over to send. One minute i feel like i'm not doing enough, then i'll think about it and feel like i'm trying to put out a candle with a firehose. i think i just need to stop and submit.

i couldn't see other people's posts until i posted. i finally bit the bullet and stopped playing with the darned thing and posted it. Good review from the prof with a really interesting and thought provoking following question that i will be happy to give some serious thought and insight into. I was more afraid was my writing level too low, too high? was i not doing enough? My anxiety was at about a 9.5 before-i'm down to about a 6 right now. Now i'm just not liking all the "on computer" reading but i have computer blue screen glasses to help and i've realized how to make my tablet work to get all my stuff. I'm feeling like i can actually accomplish this.
