I'm pretty much at my witt's end here. These teachers are so demanding and get puzzled at me if I don't send their students home. I'm fed up with Teachers who think they know better than the Nurse. Over it !! Thanks for letting me vent 😕

Sometimes I think the teachers and students are in a competition to see who can get me to send home the most people. I have a few teachers that "get it" and understand that I can't possibly send home every sniffle and itchy throat but there is no shortage of teachers that think I should send home a student just because their eye is red (because they wore a torn contact lens for half the day and their eye is irritated) - no amount of reasoning and educating them will get through. I've actually had kids come down and say to me "i'm in so and so's class and they want me seen because i sneezed twice in class, but i'm fine so... uh, i'm just going to go"

You're in good company! I have weeks where teachers are questioning my nursing judgment and it just irks me. Then the gossip begins about how the nurse did this and the nurse said that. It can be very lonely and isolating being the only medical person in the building. And just when a teacher thinks she knows it all, someone vomits and he/she suddenly doesn't have a medical bone in their body anymore.
:sigh"

Is it bad to laugh when THAT teacher gets snot or vomit or any disgusting kids mess on them? Young, 1st year teaching was baptized this week with projectile vomiting by a student. She had called me earlier in the day to tell me kid was faking illness to get out of class and she wasn't going to send them to clinic. (So why are you calling me?) Anyway, another teacher sent student to have temp checked and of course it was off the charts. I sent kid to get backpack while I called parent and well...things happen. Then poor teacher wanted me to clean up her shoes??!!! Yeah that didn't happen!!

She wanted you to clean her shoes?!?
When I laughed she just looked at me and said, "well isn't that what nurses do?" She now knows that isn't what nurses do!
You should have pulled her a new pair from that magical closet we supposedly have in our office. The one with every size clothing and shoes, plus has things people actually want to wear in it.

Who was the one who said this board was like our own virtual nurses' station? Maybe Nutmegge? :)
Anyway, yea, BAER on the shoes.

If a teacher ever asked me to clean up her shoes, I think I would laugh so hard and for so long I would need to get a substitute.
Some days you just got to laugh until the tears run down your legs!
Just had a parent stop to ask why I didn't call her last week when her son had a high fever at school. His teacher had asked if I called. Last time I checked 98.3 wasn't a "high fever".
