Why the Wait????

I was recently enrolled in a LPN to RN bridge program at a local Community College. Once you have finished your pre-reqs the RN program is three semesters long. I successfully finished the first semester in the Summer of 2011, but after taking finals I failed the second semester in the Fall of 2011 by one point. My instructors have informed me that I will be allowed back into the program in the semster where I left off at, my only issue is I have to wait until the Fall of 2012 to do so. Why the wait? normally if you fail a course in college you can pick right back up in the upcoming semester, Does anyone know why Nursing programs have this policy?

I am in a 2 yr program at a local community college as well. My school has the same policy on failing, most can get back in (only once though!). The reason why you have to wait is because the classes only fall in certain semesters. For example, our four semesters are nurs 111, nurs 112, nurs 211, nurs 212

nurs 111 & nurs 211 are fall classes

nurse 112 & nurs 212 are spring classes

does that make sense?

Thank you responding. My classes were Nur 221 in the summer Nurs 222 in the fall and 223 & 224 in the spring with 223 and 224 being completed in the third semster they are split into eight weeks for each course, but the school I attend will have a Nurs 222 class starting this summer. Also there was a Nurs 222 class that had started this spring but my advisors would not let me take it.

Thank You for responding. I understand Our course were Nur 221 was in the summer Nurs 222 was in the fall and Nurs 223 & 224 are in the spring but they are split into 8-week course for each. But there was a Nurs 222 class that started in January and there will be another Nurs 222 this summer I wanted to start the January class but my instrcutors would not allow me to, Im just hoping to start thi summer, but that was my question why the wait if they have another class starting sooner than this fall

This is not at all unique to nursing. Most college majors/courses of study have a specific progression of courses, and not all are offered every semester, especially when you get to the more advanced courses.

Good luck to you.

I completed my associates in community college as well. From what I can recall, if you failed a class you had to go through a "remediation" period (which was one semester i think) where you reviewed with intructors and Dean of Nursing why you failed and sort of come up with a plan/solution for it not to happen again.

That semester's class may have been full already; there is a limit to the number of clinical slots available
