medication error
I was a LPN for 10 years and a RN for almost 2 years..I started a new job this week at a LTC facility. I shadowing a nurse for two days, and on day three I got to do a med pass while the nurse hovered and offered assistance as needed. Well I accidentally gave a PRN medication of 10mg valium to the patient instead of the scheduled 2mg valium, the error was discovered during our med count and we reported it to our DON, the DON told the nurse to call the Dr., get vitals, and chart on the patient. I was the called to the DON office who told me that she was doing a review of my work so far, she said that this mistake must never happen again. After I left work for the day I received a phone call from the office manager who said that I was taken off the schedule and that I would get a call next week, I called the DON back and asked what was going on and she told me that my review has to be discussed with the CEO and administrator, and after the meeting I will be called about further scheduling....Does anyone think that I'm about to fired for this med error, I'm really nervous

Why the Wait????
Thank You for responding. I understand Our course were Nur 221 was in the summer Nurs 222 was in the fall and Nurs 223 & 224 are in the spring but they are split into 8-week course for each. But there was a Nurs 222 class that started in January and there will be another Nurs 222 this summer I wanted to start the January class but my instrcutors would not allow me to, Im just hoping to start thi summer, but that was my question why the wait if they have another class starting sooner than this fall

Why the Wait????
Thank you responding. My classes were Nur 221 in the summer Nurs 222 in the fall and 223 & 224 in the spring with 223 and 224 being completed in the third semster they are split into eight weeks for each course, but the school I attend will have a Nurs 222 class starting this summer. Also there was a Nurs 222 class that had started this spring but my advisors would not let me take it.

Why the Wait????
I was recently enrolled in a LPN to RN bridge program at a local Community College. Once you have finished your pre-reqs the RN program is three semesters long. I successfully finished the first semester in the Summer of 2011, but after taking finals I failed the second semester in the Fall of 2011 by one point. My instructors have informed me that I will be allowed back into the program in the semster where I left off at, my only issue is I have to wait until the Fall of 2012 to do so. Why the wait? normally if you fail a course in college you can pick right back up in the upcoming semester, Does anyone know why Nursing programs have this policy?
