I thought it be educational for psychiatric nurses to hear what there patients actually think of them. As a former psychiatric patient,(obviously better now) I have experience with psychiatric nurses.

So if you have any questions, comment below :)

My patients ( specifically the ones who are there frequently) are very comfortable telling me what they think of me.

Some ask me how in the heck I have the keys when I am as crazy as they are

Some tell me I am one of the ones who treat them like they arent crazy

Some tell me that they have been told by the other patients that I will do anything that is needed to help them but not to step out of line/ try to intimidate me because it wont work out well.

Many of them tell me that they can tell I actually care about them and Im not just there for a paycheck.

My patients are pretty open with what they think about me, as well.

My most frequently gotten comment is that they enjoy my bubbly personality - that is raises the mood of the unit when I'm there, and they're very sensitive to any deviation from that.

They know I won't deviate from the rules, but that I'll fight for them if I feel they've been mistreated in any way. That gets me into trouble sometimes.

They also know I can get caught up taking to patients/staff and I may be slow getting non-urgent things done ?.

So OP, what were your thoughts on your nurses????

I'm the nurse that treats them like human beings, with dignity & respect. I am the nice one. I am the ***** I am the funny one, the one that doesn't care, the one with no heart. I'm the one they want; the one they don't want. I'm a witch, cursed, marked by the devil (birthmark on the face); I'm an angel. I'm a nurse --- I am whatever I need to be at the moment.

I was inpatient recently and had great nurses throughout my stay. One taught me some meditation and breathing techniques; several others sat with me and talked as if I were their only patient. They were amazing.....of course, being a nurse myself meant we all spoke the same language, but as they had to remind me on occasion, I was Viva the patient, not Viva the nurse. We also had really good staffing, 1:4 on day and evening shift, and 2 nurses for 11 pts. on nocs. Overall I was very pleased with my IP experience, and I give the nurses a lot of the credit for making my stay valuable and productive.

The good - "You are the only person that has actually listened"

The bad - "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU, BOY!" (because I would not let him leave.... because he was committed).

The ugly - It's not appropriate to explicitly state here, but it involves being called multiple curse words.

None of my clients have ever seemed particularlly shy about letting me know what they thought of me ... :)
