What was I thinking?!?!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I got a conditional acceptance into NS starting in January, I still have four classes that I need to finish to clench my spot. Fall semester I will be taking Micro w/lab, history, public speaking and a fine art credit. In addition to this I will also be taking a nine week nursing assistant course during the day. I'm starting to think that I bit off too much, but I know I can do it! I'm looking at it as training for when I start NS and have to have a full time job (I don't at the moment, hence the NA course). Anyone got any advice on how to not pull my hair out this semester?

In my freshman year there was a guy on my floor in the dorm that was going to town taking too many courses. The whispering about him was ferocious when he was so exhausted during finals that he passed out and slept through one of his finals. I didn't see anything funny about it at the time. I think the instructor didn't give him the benefit of the doubt.

How awful! Students do crazy things to make it through. I know I'm going to have to make sacrifices, but the reward will be what I've dreamed of for years.

One day at a time & lots of caffeine.

This too shall pass - with a very nice GPA. Don't scare yourself by listening to the horror stories of crash-and-burn students or compare yourself to anyone else. You're unique with your own super-powers & some great people have your back. A year from now, you'll look back and wonder "how the heck did I survive that semester?"

Sounds to me like pretty good practice for the pace of the nursing program! Good luck, you can do it!

Can you take any online classes? For the fine art and history? If so, that could make it easier?

I am actually taking the public speaking, fine art and history class online. I enjoy that format a lot and do really well in them. Thank you all for your encouraging words. I feel better knowing there have been plenty of other people in this situation who slayed the dragon and kept moving forward!

Lakmom! I know for the program the care partner course is built within the program, so if I were u...to save money and time, I would wait to do the care partner course once the program starts. Even if u were to do the CP course now, u would still have to retake it once the program starts. As far as prereq goes, try to see if any of the classes are offered in 8 wk sessions instead of 16 for the fall semester. That way you'd be able To knock it out quicker.

So its almost the end of the semester (finals week to go!) and I'm happy to report that I survived the semester! I ended up doing the course and the full school load. I completed the course back in October and found a job that same week, I've been working for about a month now and LOVE it!! I'm finishing out the semester with three A's and a B (damn you Micro!!!) as long as nothing drastic happens. This semester has been ROUGH, but I'm soooooo glad I ended up going through with my plan. Hopefully this can provide some encouragement to those out there that are in a similar situation and think they can't do it! Can't wait for January!

Good for you! Great encouragement for my upcoming semester this spring I am dreading the Mirco on a full credit load! Best of luck to you

Telling you crash and burn stories is not meant to scare you or to criticize your decision making, but to give you wise warning. Hopefully you will learn from this experience without being hurt by it and you won't place yourself into similar circumstances again. Congratulations on your success!
