The waiting game

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello my name is Katrina and I live in Conway SC and attend HGTC. I have just went through two years of pre reqs and applied to the RN program for spring semester . We are a points based system with 15pts being the most. I have 11. We have been informed that the decisions will be made within 6 weeks from the close of the application period which is Aug 31. I am a nervous wreck while waiting. What did some of y'all do to get your mind off the wait?

Congratulations for finishing your pre-requisites! :) I tell you, the waiting game is the hardest! I applied to my program last December, and luckily I only had to wait a month to receive my letter, but it was the longest month ever! :nailbiting: I begin my program on August 28, so I'm eagerly awaiting that day just like you are awaiting the close of your application cycle. Will you be taking any classes this fall? That will be a good way to take the focus off of your wait if you are taking any other classes.

While waiting to start my program, I'm doing random things like going to concerts, gambling in the casino (and winning for a change!), seeing movies, and still working. I'd say do whatever you can to keep yourself busy whether with friends and family, shopping, taking up a new hobby, etc. I think what also helped for me was that I couldn't track my application online anywhere, but I was definitely stalking my mailman! :roflmao:

The waiting game is tough! I was still taking classes (college algebra, stats and nutrition) at the time, so I had plenty on my plate to keep my mind off of it. I really was able to not think too much about it until about the fifth week, which is when students normally began hearing if they moved onto the interview. I was checking my email every 10 minutes or so! I wish I could just say "relax," but it is hard! It will be here before you know it! Good luck!

Know that feeling all too well. In fact I started a thread on it. It's nerve wracking. Hope you get your good news soon!

Thanks y'all . Yes I am taking a History class, a Psychology and a nutrition class that is new. I find myself checking my email every few mins also.

While waiting during my 2 year wait into the program I took a bunch of GEs and ended up getting an AA in natural sciences. Since I still had a ton of time I started to take classes that were fun and that I would enjoy, you know, exploring my future hobbies. Also found a job in the hospital while waiting. I actually had 2 jobs since I had so much time, need that $ to pay for the program hehe

Some of the classes I enjoyed were psychology, neurobiology in plants and animals, and nutrition.

I agree I took classes, and got a general science associates degree. This summer I didnt take any classes just because I felt like if I got accepted then I would need the break, and if I did not get accepted I would need the break. I got accepted and I'm really glad I took the summer to relax. Now I'm waiting for classes to start on Monday the 19th. Then I will be waiting to finish nursing school, then I will be waiting to take the NCLEX, then waiting to hear if I passed etc etc. My point is that its a lot of waiting even after your acceptance letter. try to relax and good luck:)

I'm not there just yet, but good luck! :D

I spent that time creating my back-up plan, knowing what I was going to do if I did not get accepted into nursing school alleviated some of the stress of waiting.

I attend the same school, I am now entering the fourth semester. The waiting game is horrible, I use to sit and wait for mailman to run everyday. I say finish up any prerqs or coreqs if you plan attending a BSN program. In the mean time try to relax or take a vacation. Also have a back up plan to apply to a few other colleges. Good luck hope you get in!

I had to wait about a month after I turned in my application to get an interview. (My university is rolling-admission basis) Then after my interview about 1-2 weeks to be notified I was accepted(By email). After I was accepted I had to wait another 1-2 for the acceptance packet to arrive by mail. After I received a scholarship application and turned it in. I gad to wait to get interviewed. After getting interviewed I had to wait a month to get notified I had received the scholarship and was in the scholars program. After receiving the good news I had to wait another 1-2 to sign the contract . After that I had to wait another 1-2 to be called to do a pre-employment physical. Which I am going to do this week.

Everything in life is waiting and there are certain steps we must complete before we reach our goals. I wish you luck in all your endeavors .

Yeah I am taking some classes towards my BSN while in wait.
