Good Luck to you. Did you contact your school to make sure that they have a wheelchair access? My school just made major adjustments concerning that. On how to 'fit in': Just be yourself.

Also get in contact with the Office of Students with Disabilties (or whatever it may be called at your school). They will help you with any needed accomodations for your classes.

I think you have chosen a great field. I graduate in December and I know for a fact in my Nursing program that you would fit right in. I also think it will be great for you to go into peds being in a wheelchair. I think it is important to expose children to things they view as "different". Good luck in your program and in Peds.

I would definitely check ahead about accomodations. Especially for the wintertime, since the sidewalks and parking lots will be icy.

Hi-welcome to allnurses. I found this article and thought you'd like it--there is also a book referenced that looks great:

Good luck to you in nursing school--you will love it. I dont think you will have trouble fitting in--most nursing students are good peeps!

i think discovernursing.com has some information that you might find interesting, too. i haven't been there for awhile, but it's sponsored by johnson & johnson's.

i just checked....they have pages dedicated to:
    who > nurses with disabilities
