I really want to make straight A's in all of my science prereqs. Has anyone made straight A's in all of the science prereqs? And if so, how much studying did it take?

I was lucky enough to make straight A's. I wanted to stay ahead of the game, so I studied alot, pretty much daily, to make sure that I had a solid understanding of the material, so there were no surprises on test day. You definitely don't want to fall behind in science coursework.

I made straight A's in my science pre-reqs. Before we started them, we received an e-mail warning us to be prepared to study 3 hours/day in addition to class time. For me, that was minimum. I spent a lot of time studying every day, whether it was sitting down physically reading the book or re-listening to lectures during my commute or spending time with the models in Open Lab or pre-prepping for the following day's lecture. The sciences consumed my life, and as a result, I'm proud of my accomplishments.

Thank u for your responses. I am willing to spend as much time as necessary to study.

Yes, its possible. I think that reading the text books, keeping up with lectures, and creating my own study guides really helped a lot. Also, start studying for a test well in advance

I don't study ALL the time and have had straight A's except for a couple math classes. 2 B'a :( anyway for Micro this semester I study about an hour or 2 on Wed. and about 2-3hrs for it on Friday. When I took my a and p classes I studied the same amount. 4-6hrs per week.

Wow,, that's awesome! I have to study quite a bit. I don't retain information that I learn. I have to go over it a few times, so that I understand it and retain it.

Yes, I got all A's in my science classes. I say this a lot; it's not about the time. It's about the quality of your studying! If you have only two hours at a time to study, how can you make it meaningful? :) NEVER CRAM. Cramming might get people through pre-reqs, but once nursing school starts cramming does not fly.

I still make To Do lists because I need something to keep me focused. I also like to make up questions that I think might be on tests; I put them on my gFlash+ app on my iPhone/iPad and quiz myself out loud. (I am finding that this technique is really helpful in nursing school! Doing this seems to help me re-word test questions so that I can find the best way to answer them).

For patho, I used to draw out concept maps because this cut out a lot of extra words and simplified the concepts for me.

That is a terrific goal (Straight A's) which is entirely do-able. There will be sacrifice involved however. Not in a bad way, but in giving up some of the things you may now enjoy daily.

I earned straight A's through all pre-requisites - you can too! You must understand the material - study for knowledge not for grades. Find a technique to boost your confidence and employ it always, everywhere you go.

Most importantly start a study group with your fellow students. YOU must be the leader (don't smother anyone) and in being the leader you will need to learn the material well enough to help your colleagues better understand the subject. Try it, you will see quick improvement in your knowledge base. As you help your friends understand the subject you will be reinforcing that same material in your mind.

Talk about the concepts regularly with your study group, listen to their viewpoint on the subject it may help you to understand a concept a little more clearly. In A & P study the color plates in your text know what each part shown does - describe it in your own words to your fellow study partners. Have them describe it back to you in their own words. For your exams get that color image from the text in your head and describe it on the exam as needed. I find it much easier to conjure a color image in my head and then describe it in words (in answer to specific exam questions) than to regurgitate memorized text.

With these few bits of advice you are on your way.

It worked well for me and I truly believe it will work well for you.

YOU can do it!

I did 14-30 hours a week depending

I got all A's

I study every night 1-3hrs depending how sleepy I am. Ive taken human bio, a&p1, and now I am taking a&p2, thankfully been gettin As so far. It doable when you put your mind to it :) Just keepin thinking "this isnt forever" the crazy studying will be over when you graduate and it will all be worth it :)

So far, I gotten Bs in my pre reqs which I'm ok with... Science has never been my strong point so I'm satisfied!!! I would say give it the same 2-3 hrs per day and work on quizzing yourself... Also make sure too ask lots of questions regarding things you don't understand!!!!
