Nursing Student Wannabe

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello:

I'm 45 and am interested in changing careers from IT to nursing. I'd like to become an RN.

The only thing is that I have no money for school. And, since I live in expensive Orange County, California chockfull of car payments, student loans, and all bills under the sun, I'm very doubtful that I will be "allowed" to pursue a nursing career.

Against incredible odds, does anyone have any ideas that can be shared with me?

Thank you!

John

That sounds bleak, to be honest ...for all the reasons you've stated and then some. Are you stuck in Orange County, or is moving a possibility? Why do you want to change careers? Do you already have student loans to pay back from your previous education?

So you work in IT, have you been able to save up some money? If you have not, the best thing, if you want to stay in CA, is to work in IT for a few years and save up some money to cover the college tuition. Other options may be student loans, unless you already borrowed way too much and no longer eligible. However, I am sure you will be able to qualify for private loans, but they have high interest rates. Other thing is, are you married? If so, can you and your spouse survive on one income? You can, of course, work part-time while attending school.
