nursing school in the fall, which book?

Hey!

I am trying to prepare for nursing school. I plan on getting the textbooks a month early get a start on the material. But I know the nclex-style of questions on exams might throw me off.

1. Which book would you guys recommend that I should use to review and get use to the style of questions?

2. And also help me study and supplement what I'll be learning in the first semester?

I stopped at barnes and nobles, and there are so many different companies and names and different publishers. A bit overwhelming but yea thats too be expected.

Oh! and I'll be taking health promotion, health assessment, pharmacology and either mental health OR concepts of nursing.

3. I know familiarizing myself with drugs & calculations names is a must also, so any suggestions on where to start with that, or just to use the text book?

I've heard from others that Saunders is a good one to use during school. I haven't actually laid eyes on it, so I can't speak from experience.

If you play with key words on here, you'll likely come across a lot of posts with recommendations for books, meds, etc. that would be good to review before you start. Don't forget to enjoy your free time while you have it, because you will certainly miss it! :)

I recommend Saunders. The current edition has a purple cover. My entire BSN faculty recommends it for studying for both NCLEX and for exams because of the lay out. The book provides NCLEX style questions as well as in-depth outlines to review anatomy and physiology. It's definitely worth the money! :-)

It is! :-) I highly suggest that book because it'll reinforce what you've already learned A&P-wise as well as what you will learn in your nursing courses. It also comes with a code in the front cover to use for online access for a slew of questions!

another suggestion --- don't actually start studying materials in the texts until you have a syllabus from your course instructor.. I'm finishing my 2nd semester and NONE of my instructors have gone in the order of the chapters from the text..

Ohhh did not consider that at all! Good point lol im assuming the first chapter is just baducs but yea instructors can mix it up. Thanks!

This is so true! Syllabi always change, or you end up falling behind and topics don't get covered in class, or you skip a chapter all together. People assume that you begin with the first part of the textbook which half the time you don't consult the first part of the textbook at all. I generally reference the first few chapters during assignments, but I can't remember having chapter 1 or 2 being lectured, lol.
