Nursing Pre-reqs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I got a C+ in basic biology last semester should I retake it next semester and aim for an A or stick with the C+ even though it is remedial and has no credits

ok....what?

If the biology course you took is a prerequisite for a nursing program, you will have to do very well in it in order to be a viable candidate. That doesn't mean a "C".

What do you mean "remedial and has no credits"? Is this a course that you are supposed to take before taking Biology 101 (which DOES have credits)? If so....you are clearly not prepared to ace Bio 101; you got a C in the remedial course.

Could you clarify this a bit?

Yeah you need to clear it up for us. How is it a remedial biology? If it isn't the biology needed for nursing schools (an intro biology class) & you got a C, I guess I would suggest retaking it because I don't see how you could take the actual biology class & get an A or B. You will need to get at least a B but an A would be better because nursing schools are really competitive.

Definitely depends on how competitive your program is. In most areas, a C in biology is a bad sign. If possible, I'd retake it.

Excelling in Biology is crucial for success in nursing in general... I would retake the class and ace it. If you didn't do well in remedial Bio, as you said, you will probably not do so well in AP1. Most schools consider your Bio courses as a major part of your pre req GPA.

Ok sorry for the confusion, I go to mcc and bio 010 is considered remedial because it's basic biology I'm not sure if it that way at other community colleges. And my numerical grade was an 80 but because my previous professor didn't follow the traditional grading system I got a C+. I was planning on transferring to ramapo or willy p not the nursing program at mcc, right now I'm enrolled in the same bio course but like I said its considered remedial and doesn't go towards my gpa (which I'm trying to bring up its a 3.1)

@RNsRWe

Is bio 101 A&P at your school it's bio 111 at my CC that's why I'm not sure what you're talking about? at my school the bio class I took is a pre-req for A&P

im currently taking human biology , a 4 credit class.. it is required before A&P....and effects the overall Gpa score.....never came across a bio course that isn't counted in with other courses....

its a 4 credit class but it doesn't go towards my gpa if that makes sense this is mainly why I'm hesitant on continuing to retake it

Not knowing where mcc or ramp or willy p (these are schools?community colleges?) is besides the point.

You got a C in a remedial course take it again if you want to get into any nursing program. The BSN program I used to teach in the minimum GPA to apply is 3.0. The problem is that most applicants have 3.5 & above meaning those with 3.4s and below never get in.

yeah I'm gonna stay in the class I'm retaking now because it's really not a good look having a c on my transcript for a basic bio class. Thank you everyone for your input if anyone cares I'll let you all know how I do at the end of the semester :)
