NLN 2017 HELP!! so nervous

So im trying to get into nursing school and I have to take the NLN test. They have just recently re did the test it use to be 3 hours and more questions and they have basically cut it in half and you only get 40 mins for each section. There are no new books out for it and I only have the old one. I feel like I am going in blind, I have been studying like crazy but I feel like it will have completely new material. Has any taken the new 2017 NLN test?? if so how was it? Or does anyone have any tips?? I dont want to bomb this test!!!

I'm scheduled to take the test on 8/8 and I'm not panicking. The content should be about the same as before, though if they're cutting down the time, then it might be safe to assume that they're reducing the amount of questions they're asking.

Just study well (2~3 hours a day if you can), and you'll do alright.

I heard rumors of them allowing calculator use, but I can't confirm that - is there a link that I could check out? Even the NLN website is kinda vague.

Yes! They are letting us use calculators this time! And the questions have been cut down to 60 verbal 40 math and 60 science 40 minutes for each! Please let me know how your test goes! I take mine the 18th! Also if it helps I found an NLN app and it's been helping me ALOT it shows your the right answers and gives an explanation for each! It's called "NLN Pax prep 2017 edition". Oh wow that's neat, thanks!! I'm still using the old book but I think the content is pretty much the same so I'm not really nervous about it haha. The calculator will be handy, but I'm used to doing everything w/ a pen and paper anyway so this just makes things a tad easier :o

I checked in with my campus today and they didn't have any info on the NLN, even though they hold the examination there <_>;

The time is completely doable - for math it's about a minute per question, which is plenty of time if you know what you're doing, so i wouldn't worry too much - the English + science sections can be completed pretty quickly too if you know the material, so try not to panic!! :)

Hey! I took it this morning and didn't have a tough time really - the hardest part of the test was the proctor on her phone for 20 minutes instead of taking the call outside and having someone else sit in... lol

At no point during the test did I feel like I was pressed for time, except maybe at the beginning of the English test because the Proctor was so distracting; the time felt fair for the allotted questions. Granted, you still have to work very quickly though.

Math was lots of fractions, percents, and a little geometry; make sure you match units! There was one question that tried to trip me up by giving inches for 2 of the measurements, and feet for the 3rd - no biggie, just remember how to convert and you're good! Calculators were allowed, and supplied - much more basic than the TI models we've come to know and love, but they had a fraction button at least which made things much faster! haha That being said, the calculator didn't help for everything, so be sure to keep your mental math game strong!

The science portion I felt was hardest because it's SO much material - one girl was in tears after because she'd only really studied the 4 practice tests that came in the book, and didn't really absorb anything else. The computer threw a LOT of physics at me, very little chemistry, and a bit of life science. I didn't get much A&P though, I do remember a question or two on hormones though!

Best strat I think would be to make your own practice tests and go over things like circuits, reactions, plant cell formation - the science section did try and throw some curve balls so it is kinda hard to cheese through; gotta know that material!

I think I did okay - waiting on my results still though @_@!

Composite score of 144; 97th percentile :D So I'm happy to have those results on file for the next 5 years haha

Sorry to bother you again, but was the test similar to the book? Same concept? I'm just so nervous verbal is super tough for me lol such big words. Were some of the same words on here?

Haha don't sweat it!!

I found the test really similar to the book content; that being said, for the science, don't rely on only using the book's practice tests. For that you'll really need to read the sections, but it's not too bad; make a quizlet study set if you need to with some terminology Qs, or even write a few of your own practice tests based on chapters in the section.

See if you can get a refresher on vocab too - there is a small vocab part in the book and it's not bad, though this link here is complete vocab overkill (it's awesome) NLN Vocabulary Flashcards | Quizlet

I was never once asked to point out what a prepositional phrase was, what an adverb/adjective are etc. The test is pretty much what's in the book :)

Did you take the test? Is it the same test to bypass your a and p and micro class if they're over 7 years old? I went to take it today but the NLN website is down and they're telling me it's two separate tests one for a and p and one for micro... so I was wondering if it still has vocab and math on it or if it's strictly a and p and micro material on the test?
