New to Nursing! Questions for RN in Texas!

Hello! My name is Jenny and I am in the midst of signing up at Texas Tech to become an RN! I have finally decided that this is what I want to do! Need help as I am still unsure if I'm going for my Associate of Science Degree or getting my Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN). What is the pay for an RN in Texas? and how easy is it to get in after just earning your Associates?

If your going to Texas tech you'll be getting your BSN. Which is what I'd suggest doing. Most places prefer the BSN prepared nurse now a days. If you want your associates that's usually a community college. Pay depends on where you go after graduation. Go to salary.com to get an idea.

Texas is 870 miles wide, and therefore, the hundreds of cities and towns have new grad pay rates that vary drastically. As far as the larger cities are concerned, Houston tend to pay the most ($26 to $30), Dallas tends to be in the middle ($23 to $26), and Austin and San Antonio tend to offer the lowest pay rates ($19 to $24).

You'll need a BSN if you hope to work in acute care hospitals in several of the major cities. If you plan to work in a rural area, an associate degree will suffice.
