I'm applying to volunteer at the local hospital!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I called the local hospital to see what kind of contracts they offered new nurses so I could have my tuition paid for. They told me they didn't have contracts, but would pay my tuition on a prorated basis once I graduated nursing school. They also told me that they fund a grant for the nursing program at the local CC where I attend. Basically, if I am employed by the hospital when I apply, I have a better chance of being accepted since 30 of the 80 students accepted must be hospital employees. Not only this, they will pay my tuition, & also give me $6k stipend to live off of, & give me full benefits. I am so excited but I can't seem to find a job I am qualified for there. When you apply, the website asks you crucial questions & if you say no, you can't further the application.

So, my fiancé suggested I volunteer there. I just now realized this plan was ingenious. If I volunteer & work my butt off, someone will notice. I'll have a better chance of being hired, & with a call from the hospital administration, can perhaps bypass the 3 year waiting period for the nursing program at my school. I got an email today saying they are mailing me the application & look forward to interviewing me soon. I selected to volunteer for the "nursing unit support positions designed for students seeking medical careers."

That's a great idea!! I volunteered at the hospital where my aunt works the summer after high school. I only had to volunteer for a few weeks before I was able to get a paid position in my aunt's department. They said that I just needed to be able to put some hospital experience down on the application. I volunteered in Physical Therapy, I was starting college as a PTA major. I was registering for fall classes when I got the call for the interview. I worked there for just over 2 years, it would have been longer but I made some errors in judgment (whom I call my ex-husband).

I hope that they see how hard I work & will give me a chance. That grant, & having an extra push into the nursing program would help me IMMENSELY. If I have to wait 3 years, I might freak.

That is great! I want to do that, because the hospital can help pay for schooling some too. (At JHH they can anyways) Good Luck!

AWESOME!!!....Where I work after you pass each quarter they reimburse you for tuition and fees....I'll get a free ride (single mom status)...So that money will help me live...this nursing program here it's strongly suggested you only work weekends if that.

Yeah, I definitely don't plan to work any more than weekends while I'm actually in nursing school. While I'm in pre-nursing; however, I'll probably be working full time... at least until my fiance gets a teaching position.

& tuition paid would be a big deal... I pay a ton on it already.
