I need some help!

Hi everyone!

I need some advise about the Nursing programs that I have around me. I will appreciate all your comments and advises. I live in Houston area and I want to become a Registared Nurse, Lone Star College offers a program, but the thing is that I try to take the HESI test and I fail the English part (all 3 parts, vocabulary, comprehension and grammar) I feel so scared because English is my second language and I don't think that I will do good in the HESI test. So I wonder if out there are other options that I can have, some colleges or private school that doesn't ask for too many requisites.

A command of the English language is needed for a nurse to be able to effectively communicate with patients and the treatment team. It is also a safety concern- little mistakes due to a misunderstanding of written/verbal words may lead to a patient's death or injury.

While there are schools who do not require the HESI exam, most will require an entrance exam of some type. Instead of trying to work around the requirements, perhaps it would behoove you to investigate ESL courses to help with your English proficiency.

If you cannot meet the requirements to be a nurse in the United States then you do not meet them. There is no secret way to avoid meeting the requirements. If your englis needs improvement then take classes and study.

I encourage you to enroll in one of the many (many, many, many) private English proficiency schools in the Houston area to improve your skills. You can check online ratings to decide on which one. Afterward, you can re-take your HESI. Without sufficient English proficiency, you will be absolutely lost in any nursing program.

I agree with what the others are saying. There is no way around the requirements for nursing as most programs have very similar requirements. All of the schools I have looked into require an entrance exam that includes English vocab, grammar and reading. Your English on your post was pretty good, perhaps you just need to brush up on those skills and then take the HESI again.
