I found out I have an "F"

I have been working on my pre-reqs for nursing for a semester now. I have a previous degree from 2009. Apparently back in 2006 I enrolled in a couple online classes while I was traveling. I completed one and just didn't finish the other, I must have just forgotten to drop it? I have no idea what I was thinking. I vaguely remember doing the classes and I"m surprised I actually completed one of them! I had forgotten about this class until I pulled all my trasncripts from all the community colleges. I retook the class in 2007, passed it with an "A".

Next spring I'll be applying for a BSN spot, I still will have a high GPA but I'm now terrified this dirty "F" is going to haunt me :(

Although, the school I'm applying to has this "* Any failed prerequisite classes in the last 5 years are noted and may factor into acceptance" in the packet, I'm hoping that means because my class is over 5 years old it won't hurt my chances.

I found out I had 3 F's from a school I dropped out of due to personal reasons. Forgot to drop the classes too. I applied and told them the truth about it and i still got into the nursing program. Just be honest because you don't want them to find out a different way.

That's good news. I am not intention of hiding this as obviously it was my mistake. I already E-mailed my counselor informing him I had those 2 classes on my transcripts as well.

Schools only use certain classes to point-rank students competitively . If the F is in a class that isn't used for that ranking, they will see it but it shouldn't count. If it's a class that's part of the point ranking, then I think most schools would average the A and the F. Not all RN programs count the same classes fo ranking, so you can also shop the schools for ones that would look at your more favorably than some others might.

Yes, that 5-year freshness date should mean it's tossed out. Should. lol. One thing you learn about nursing programs and instructors is that they make their own rules and seemingly change them at will.
