How's the Semester Going?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Finished the second week of the semester. With all of this crazy weather it has been very hard. My son is constantly either on a 2 hour delay or his school is closed. And we are getting more snow this weekend and the temp is supposed to drop even further next week. Really? It was -10 this morning. I could not do this without my friends to help me out on days that I need it. So with all this craziness I have not missed a class so far.

I am enjoying most of my classes so far. I have Psych, Sociology, Math, and Advanced Physiology. Loving my Physiology class. It's so interesting. Just got done writing a paper on GLUT transporters. I think I will like my psych class too. Sociology not so much. But it should be an interesting semester.

Specializes in Psychiatry.

I heard that here too, I hope our classes are cancelled tomorrow as well!

Specializes in CNA.

I can only hope ours are. ?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

It is 75 degrees today in Florida! It was a bit rainy in the morning, but that cleared right up.

I will say, though...I am HATING this semester. My previous courses have been science-heavy classes that relied on a few important exams as our grade. I thrive on the stress and fast pace of grueling, difficult courses, but now? Ugh. This semester, I'm taking a lot of fluffy little "honors" classes to round out the requirements of a side honors college degree I'm trying to pad my academic credentials with. It's a bunch of trite, silly busy work. I have a million little assignments due every day, but there isn't anything meaty or substantial to the curriculum, and I'm BORED OUT OF MY MIND. I never thought I'd miss A&P, Bio or chem so much! Heck, I'd take back the crushing hell of LPN school over this boring crap in a heartbeat. For the first time in three years, I'm feeling discouraged.

I have one science class (Microbiology), and thank God for it. It is the only class where I feel I'm actually learning something.

Specializes in ICU.

School for my son cancelled today and tomorrow ughh!!! This weather is crazy. We went to Milwaukee for a judo tournament this past weekend and coming back to Indiana was a nightmare. Did not get home until 4AM and had class at 9. I am feeling exhausted right now. Thank goodness for friends to help me.

I had physiology and sociology today. I might enjoy this soc class. Didn't think I would but it got interesting today.

Crazy weather in mobile no class tues or wed on the account of snow. The holiday day was too good I finally got to sleep. Now it back to business as usual.

This semester is starting slow can't really get in gear to study. This semester I have A&P 2, micro, and math. So far I'm doing well in anatomy, having a micro test next week. On top of that I take the teas on next Saturday and really not to worried about it yet. I agree with another OP I work best in a crunch.

Weather in Oregon holding steady between 30-50 degrees, but even we're concerned over the lack of rain this year. My husband works for the Forestry Dept and it's looking like the West is about to have an even worse fire season this year than we had last year. This term I'm taking Micro, Stats and a silly remedial Biology class (it satisfies a BSN requirement for some strange reason). I look like a genius in that Bio class because I've already gone through the Anat/Phys and Chemistry series. Micro is a lot of fun and very interesting and Stats is...well...Stats. Good luck to you Midwesterners and Northeast people buried under snow and ice!

The weather's been bad here as well. Good ol' midwest. Monday we finally had class canceled d/t all the snow and blowing, in addition to -40 windchill. It was the first day canceled thus far (missed first day of OB clinicals!), despite all the other cancellations the past couple weeks around here. My school just will not delay or cancel unless you can't see your hand in front of your face.

I'm originally from the OR coast and even that area is under severe fire alert. Bizarrre since it's used to 60" or so of rain this time of year...

Lucky ducks whose schools cancelled! I was hoping after I heard U of M shut down since it's even worse weather up here... but alas. Idk what it would take.

A&P is really overwhelming. Most schools do it in a year, mine does it in a semester, and apparently it was designed for future doctors and PAs and the instructor only teaches pre-nurses because he was forced to, but didn't change any aspects of the class. I would be terrified if I were a traditional 18 year old freshman.

I am in the polar vortex, too. And I have no car and have to get to class and work. The work commute is 2.5 hours by bus. I am doing well in the pre-reqs, mostly A's with very few B's. I am wondering if this means I will do well in nursing school?

And is it possible to get through nursing school with no car?? I am going for the LPN certificate so that I can get into the workforce quickly.
