How's everyone's fall semester going?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Soooo, now that we are knee-deep in fall 2011, how's everyone feeling? I'm taking A&P II, Nutrition, Spanish I and College Algebra (:uhoh3:). I think except for the math, I'm kicking buttinski.

Anyone else?

I'm taking A&P1 (and lab), Chem (and lab), Stats, Spanish 1 & English 101.

Got an 86 on the first A&P test, 89 on my first chem test, 94 on my first stats test, 98 & 99 on my first spanish tests, and I'm currently writing my first paper for English.

I'm about to take an online quiz for A&P, and if I get the full points (5 :p) I'll have an exact 90% in the class. I have a 92 in lab.

For chem, we have online homework, so averaged with my test (89 >:|) I have about a 93%. I have a 98 in lab.

I have a 99% in Spanish, and a 97% in stats.

And for English, we haven't had any actual grades yet, so I need to do really well on my paper :p

Glad to see that everyone else is doing well, but it also makes me nervous for actually getting into nursing school because everyone's doing well LOL.

Taking A&P I with Lab and Nutrition so far Lab is not my cup of tea, especially Histology.

Forgive my silly question but how is A&P 1 and 2 broken up for those of you taking those classes? In my area, you take anatomy by itself and then physiology alone. So in anatomy we learned all the anatomy and touched lightly on systems. In physiology, we're tackling how each system works.

So are you guys tackling both anatomy and physiology at the same time in A&P?

I wish i my school was well into fall. we're in a quarter system so it's just the 2nd week of school. I'm taking A&P III - since the school goes by Quarter sys. A&P is broken up into 3 classes. I'm also taking Intro to Psych. I just need Nutrition and Dev. Psych and i'll be done with all my pre-reqs!

My Micro test was on Monday and it was easy! I had stressed about it a lot and thought this was going to be a hard class.

Finally got my test grades back! 88 on first AP2 exam and 95 on first Chem exam! Super happy. The class average on the chem exam was only a 70! Very proud of myself for studying the material and doing so well.

Looks like we're all off to a pretty good start!

Yep. We talk about body systems and their functions at the same time as the anatomy of those systems. So when you learn joints, you learn all the functions as well as as learn to label them. I like it- I feel like it builds complete knowledge. Knowing how things work helps me remember where they are, and vice versa.

Hi, everyone. Good job, guys, on your grades in the Fall. Whoever is taking several science classes together - great jobs, guys, it takes up a lot of time, but you are doing it :))Unfortunately, I am not doing well this Fall. My last prereq is Speech 101, so I have this class once a week. Guys, how did you all do that class, tell me. I have gotten all A's in all other classes so far (Anat., Physio, Micro, Chem, Psych, Life Span Psych, History of Religion, Philosophy, Sociology, Nutrition,English 101, Stats, Logics), and now this Speech... I had a presentation on Monday, and got 85 points out if 110... I never got a grade that low... My self-esteem is somewhere on the level with a street curb. ha ha I think I can safely say bye to an "A", and get ready for the worst. I dont want to come off as a cry baby, but here in California schools are so competitive, and I am planning to apply for ABSN (only two schools are available), so they say they are even more competitive. I have been working so hard to get those grades, and now this. Sorry for being so repetitive, I am just sad that my psychological issue of speaking in public (and I am 31, it is not getting better as I get older) may interfere with me bot being accepted into a program.. Sigh. My apologies. I just wanted to feebly vent.

First, remember its still the beginning of the semester...dont panic just yet! :) Also, a trick I learned in my speech class was to pick three spots on the wall in the back of the class and kind of move your eyes from point to point while you're speaking...that way it looks like you're engaging with your audience even though you aren't making direct eye contact. That part, making direct eye contact with the audience, always got my nerves going. Hope this helps and keep your head up!

Talk to your instructor and ask for some advice. Tell her that it's a hard class for you, and an important one since is part of your pre-reqs. Let him/her know that you care.

I suffered Speech too. I do well with small/med groups, but public speaking makes me sweat and stammer.

I have 2 tests tomorrow. Lifespan dev. is almost 100% prepared, but A&P2 lab worries me. Well, I still have several hours ahead.

Have a nice week guys

That makes sense. I wish my school did it that way. My memory only seems to retain info for one semester. So right now in Physiology I'm trying to recall things from last semester.

So are all the body systems split between A&P 1 and 2?

willowLA, I know what you mean! I am in Los Angeles and the number of people trying to get into a nursing program is insane! The ADN programs are so tough to get into. But nothing compared to the ABSN ones. I think I read that Cal State Northridge only takes like 40 students for the year? Insane!

The only advice I can give you is that it sounds like you still have a shot to get an A in the class. You can probably overcome the 85 with your future work. I'm curious, what was your speech about? Was it the informative speech? What kind of feedback did your professor offer you?

I took Speech over the summer at ELAC and I am a very shy person. So the way I had to tackle it was that I had to convince myself that it wasn't me giving the speech. I was basically "acting". Maybe you can think of it that way. Also, were you absolutely prepared with your topic and the material? Because some students in my class had problems because they didn't have enough research for their topic. Just wondering what the situation was. I'd like to believe content of your speech would weigh more than just delivery. But maybe your professor is looking for only delivery.

Finally, if you really think you are going to do as bad as you think, would you consider dropping it and taking it another semester? Different professor maybe?
